Quartz counter support needed?

GC says I don't need additional counter support on the island for quartz. I read about the 1/3 2/3 rule ... is that applicable to quartz? If so this seems to violate that no? This is a double side seating island and the long narrow section of cabinetry is only 12" deep with 12" overhang on both sides of that including end. It seems like a lot of counter hanging over without support. Is it ok because it's balanced? Ignore the toe kick area it's not complete and excuse my messy markup picture below but it gives you an idea of what the plan is. Is this ok? If not what can be/should be done? Wondering if I could do corner posts? That may also help avoid the diving board look? Thoughts?

I am a fabricator. The layout you describe would be fine for a quartz product and even many natural stones.

I would feel like I would want at least some supports somewhere. But that's based on an irrational fear of tipping - not engineering. LOL

It's all well and good for your GC to chime in, but what does your fabricator say? I can't imagine this is a stable configuration without additional supports. The T at one end adds some stability, but I wouldn't be comfortable without metal support brackets, corbels, or legs.

Suzanne The fabricator didn't say anything during templating so maybe it's ok? I'm worried the way it's built it's too late for the metal brackets as the doors and end panel are absolutely flush with the top leaving no upper edge to attach anything to. I'd be fine with some even if it's just for piece of mind.

I'm not aware of any quartz manufacturer that would not approve of 3cm installed as shown. Because of its resin content, quartz is much stronger than natural stone and can cantilever up to 15" without additional support. I'd add 3 more inches to each side.

If you're planning on eating at the 12" overhang you're going to find it uncomfortable. Joe is right. Make it a 15" overhang.

Joe even with 12" hanging over both sides of only a 12" base? I would love to do 15" but it will make walkways too tight! We had a 9" in a previous home so we will take the extra 3" this time. Next house will do 15" :)

oldryder thanks for the reassurance that it will be ok to do.

Cp would love to as I stated to Joe but not enough room.

Anyone have an opinion on the aesthetics? Posts for looks or no posts? Or are the just in the way?
