Raveling while pre-washing, plus temperature for 100% cotton?

I’m about to pre-wash some fabrics that are 100% cotton. They are to make some cool summer shirts. I work outside and need to look nice, but can’t stand synthetics on a hot day.

Given that they are all cotton….pre-wash in lukewarm water, or cold? Is there anything I can do to avoid setting wrinkles in ? I plan on taking them out of the dryer while still somewhat damp.

How can I keep them from raveling in this process? Last time I washed fabric of similar weight and fiber, I’d read to clip the corners. Still, I was surprised at how much raveling happened, even though I did that, and washed it folded in 3 lingerie bags. I have old pinking shears somewhere. Do they work for this purpose?

Thank you.
