Now that you have updated your kitchen if you can afford to do so I would purchase a new table and chairs!

Look into chalk paint. They have some affordable ones in the paint aisle these days that you can buy a premixed color or have it tinted the color you like. I do like the stain and paint look too as mentioned above.

i agree with gdevlinjr, having a wood table top is really nice, and i think the paint would get messed up fast.

OK, I like that idea. I will sand the top and have the bottom paint matched to the cabinet color. How dark do you think I should go with the top? Also, what should I do with the chairs - white, dark, two tone? I am afraid the chalk paint may be too vintage looking. Has anone ever heard of the new self leveling paint where you don't needs to sand or prep? I think Lowes sells it to be used for furniture or cabinets. Thinking of using that although my go to paint is usually BM.

Cabinet hardware being installed today. Brushed Nickel. The top of the table needs to be redone anyway, as my daughters ruined it with nailpolish remover. What do you think if I stain it a darker color (perhaps to match the base of the table or even darker)? It is a Canadel set. Wonder if I can call the company for matching stain. Parsons chairs are beautiful, but I really don't want them in the kitchen. Worried about fabric staining.

I would look in to General Finishes latex based Milk paint for the chairs.... maybe in a graphite or mid tone gray for the chairs to pull from the counters. You could paint the base of the table, but a stellar job on the table surface unless you put a piece of round glass is more difficult if it's used a lot.

General Finishes has a Java Stain which is durable for the top of the table with a poly acrylic protectant would work well. You could go deeper so the floor and table don't look all the same. Then paint the lower portion of the table with Milk Paint or just the apron to match the chairs.... lots of options and you might look at You Tube GF has many tutorials on both Gel stain for wood and also Milk Paint for chairs or table bases, etc.

I have used Annie Sloan Chalk paint a lot. Not all Chalk paint is created equal. If you go Chalk paint I'd go with AS or Renaissance sold on Amazon. Those are the two best I personally have found that cover well.

I just painted a bed frame with rustoleum painter's touch which is a self leveling paint using this blog as my reference and go to for the procedures. It turned out pretty good minus my inexperience which led to a few issues - like drips and such. I'm planning on doing the same with a desk - except staining the top and painting the rest.

Painting furniture

I like the wood and the white. The wood warms things up a bit. I might get a white-glazed pottery bowl for a centerpiece, or maybe a lazy susan with white s&p shakers & other white condiment containers to complement the white. Also a wooden utensil holder & cutting board in the kitchen to complement the table and make it look like the wood table & chair's are carefully chosen rather than leftover!

I would paint the table top the same color as the cabinets and leave the legs the wood stain. You might also paint the chair seats the cream color - or the chair backs.

I believe it's lamplight.... the dark color that is..... it's the milk paint by GF

I believe that's their natural wood on the table...not paint.

Do you want to paint the top lighter?? I'd lean more toward the gel stain for the top unless you want to go lighter. If you want to go lighter you would need at least three coats of the poly acrylic or a round glass cut to fit the table.
