I have 7 cyads across the front of my house all about that size. Three of them turned yellow like that and burned looking. I fertilized with palm food and it has stabilized the yellowing. They haven't gotten any worse, so I won't know how they are for sure until next spring and new growth. However, the fertilizer seemed to do the trick.

By any chance are the yellow leaves facing the sun?

I believe it faces the sun late afternoon. But wouldn't the rest be yellow too?

I'm located in the central valley, California. There's Sago palms everywhere here.

Mine are in coastal GA and have full sun all day, so I'm sure it's not sun. They been in the same sun for 10 years and this didn't happen until this year. We have had a lot of rain this spring and summer and sandy loam soil, which in my case, I think leached a lot of nutrients out of the soil. Since fertilizing my problem has stabilized. By the way I used palm fertilizer and ironite.

We also had a lot of rain during the winter, more than usual. But the dirt on the one side is so hard I can't even dig around the palm to place fertilizer and palm soil to help with nutrients, the other side, the dirt is softer. Makes me wonder if this side is too close to the patio. It's weird. But this sago has been here since 2005.

From what you're describing it sounds to me like your root base is too close to the concrete on one side and heat transmitted through the concrete may be burning the roots. Is there any way you could dig that hard area out with a pick axe and shovel and replace the hard residual with better soil?

I tried digging with a shovel, but might need a pick axe instead. There's not much spaces between the concrete and sago to maneuver around, not to mention irrigation that can be damaged.

If that's an irrigation pipe I'm looking at, you don't have much room for a pick axe or any other heavy duty digging device. It does look like you've got some rock and clay base between the sidewalk and the sago. Have you tried fertilizing with palm fertilizer that has magnesium and manganese? That would be my first corrective action, if that didn't stop (arrest further yellowing) the yellowing, I'd dig that out (carefully) and amend the soil.

Yes, it's an irrigation pipe, also I believe the soil might be clay, or it's really dry from the heat. I bought fertilizer this weekend and will giving it some nutrients and hope it helps. Otherwise I will need to amend the soil, which doesn't sound fun at all. Summers here are ridiculously hot. Thanks for your help.
