There's a lot of material here & elsewhere on the internet, that gives you the pros & cons of each type of material. What is "best" for one household, may not be the best for another. Most people also have to put the question in the context of their budget. Who wouldn't like "the best", if it wasn't more than we were able & willing to spend?!

Personally, I like tile! You can put a hot pot on it, and it is easy to clean IMO. Make sure you saver some tile, and your grout color code, in case (horror) you break one! lol I have had tile for years, and love it, the only tile that I have actually broken was a floor tile when I lost control of a huge cast iron pot of stew. Don't be afraid of the whole 'You have to reseal the tile periodically' thing, because it hardly takes any time to do so, just make sure the tile and grout are clean, and brush it on with a paintbrush.
I am not a big fan of granite, just my taste...
Good Luck with your project, it is always nice to ask real people who have used different materials, you may get a new prospective vs relying on hype from a website that may just be trying to sell their product.
