I agree that the tub and window are a pretty focal point and should stay. The way to make the shower bigger is to lose some of the huge vanity counter. Make the shower mirror the toilet room.

Hi Jen - I would keep the tub as your focal point. I would suggest working some more architecture into the space with walls, arches or cased openings, ceiling details, floor tile details, etc.

You could do some interesting alcoves or shelves for towels flanking the tub. I could see this layout going traditional or modern, depending on your style. While the shower door is shown swinging inwards it must swing outwards as well. You could incorporate some frosted glass windows in the shower and water closet as well to allow more light into both spaces.

Would you prefer a larger shower? How important is a tub to you and its size? If you moved the shower to the tub area, would you have an issue with a 68.75" wide window in the shower? Would the tub as sized, would it even fit in the shower area?

Thanks, everyone, for the thoughtful comments! The shower is not too small, it's just congested right when you enter the bathroom with the double door opening into the shower door. The impetus for the remodel is to address missing grout and cracked tiles. -Jen

A 72" shower should be large enough, even if you wash your large dog in there. If you swapped positions with the tub, were you planning to move the window? Of course, that window is going to be extra-frosted, double-paned insulated glass for privacy no matter what is in front of it. I personally hate rain shower heads. I wash my hair under a standard wall shower head with several adjustable settings, even if I only use the standard setting. I also like to have an adjustable hand-held shower wand on a vertical bar in the shower. And if you have a recirculating hot water pump (a luxury), you get almost instant hot water throughout the house, but it does raise your power consumption a bit.

You could have the double doors swing into the hallway instead of into the bath.

At 74" long, I would do the long shower wall in glass and keep the clipped end open for walking in. I agree that the tub should be the focal point from the door. How wide are the double doors?

The doors are 5.5 feet.

Could you shorten the doors to 4 feet-24" each? Or honestly, with doors that are 5.5 feet, chances are you're only going to use one at a time anyway.
