I'm going to say 30% sand, 60% silt, and an insignificantly thin film of clay particles will settle on top of the silt.

Feeble encouragement in the form of an antidote is all I can contribute at this time. About 1966 or so I was working evenings in a clinical laboratory and taking horticulture classes at the university in the daytime. A variation on this jar test was the first thing the soil science professor taught and insisted upon.

I'd hazard a guess that you are about 60% sand 40% silt and not much clay. Soil should drain pretty well barring any mineral imbalance. It should also respond well to amendments.

The cloudiness of the water after 2 days indicates that you do have more than average clay content. In most of these we see you could read the newspaper through the clear water on top. The floating stuff is organic matter, so that's good to see.

dchall so i have alot of clay? The other person who commented said it looked like i had hardly any clay. Can we say for sure what my soil type is?

I think I'm the other person. dchall, if you click on the last photo you will see the entire bottle. Notice at the top half inch or so of water you can almost see through it, and then it looks cloudier in the middle. That tells me that whatever particles are there are not very dense. I'd be surprised if you can see anything more than a thin layer of clay on top of the silt if given enough time to settle. I'd still say it is negligible clay, or let's say 5% to be generous.

Example: I can roll my Houston Black clay into long strips very easily. The clay holds its form well in the air.

As I said originally there's an insignificant amount of clay in there. My original numbers were off. I'd call that 40% sand plus 60% silt = 100%. Without a ruler up against the jar for the pictures, it's more of a guess than a measurement. But there's no measurable amount of clay.
