There is Bermuda grass growing all summer and flowering in an entirely unwatered area near my house. I don't think clover would survive in the same circumstance.

Clover will retract over the heat period like so many plants will. It will extend at the beginning and at the end. It is not as fiberous and heat hardy as burmuda without water though with a moist yard it would prosper through heat.

In my experience, the only thing that temporarily chokes out Bermuda grass is Roundup. But I am a cynic.

I agree with you. Roundup is the answer, and you need to be patient enough to wait to see what regrows so you can repeat the Roundup. And repeat yet again to be sure. The Bermuda grass roots go very deep and are capable of regenerating.

Indeed. Clover won't block Bermudagrass. Bermuda will win every time.

But you might be able to use the clover to cover the bare soil until the Bermuda does its thing.

well 1/3 of our lawn is bare soil, we ripped out the Bermuda roots in the winter and poisoned the Bermuda all spring and summer. I am just tired of looking at dirt and it's too late in the season to replant fescue.. so I was thinking of seeding clover to cover the big empty space and then ripping it out to plant fescuse in November.

Clover won't block bermuda, but it could be a temporary ground cover/nitrogen fixer. The only thing that really blocks bermuda is cement.

If you don't want Bermuda, start spraying now so you can get a few grow- kill cycles in before it goes dormant then you can plant what you like in winter or spring.

Where do you live that it is too late for Fescue? I need to reseed a few bare spots and am waiting til Sept or Oct.
