Rubber gym flooring

We have a smaller gym (approx. 8x13) that we'd like to use for exercise video workouts so I'd like slightly springy flooring that can withstand hand weights being dropped on it. We are leaning towards rubber flooring that comes in 4' rolls. Do you think the 3/8" vs. 1/2" rubber flooring makes much of a difference? We have samples of each and I'm leaning towards the 1/2" based on me standing on each tiny square (on my heels) but it is double the price so I thought I'd seek thoughts from others that have ether of these materials in their home gym. I'm used to doing gym classes where they have hardwoods (and I wear my shoes as I would in our exercise room too) so not sure 3/8" thickness wouldn't be sufficient? It is part of our addition so there is currently concrete flooring.
