that corrugated round leaf is Blueberry a la Mode, bought this year, but it only seems to be yellow in morning light, it is more blue/green depending on light conditions...

Flemish Sky has such a delicate powdery blue, definitely one of my favourites...

Hi Karin,

You have a great variety and remembering all what you went through past Spring (pots inside, then pots outside, pots back inside etc) I say GREAT JOB on getting some into the ground. They look great. And I am still impressed with your use of all space including vertical space for your containers.

It is always fun to see your hosta photos... Longpipes Sparsa and Frisian Pride caught my eyes. Thanks!

You have an amazing collection of beautiful hosta Karin! Silver Threads and Golden Needles really caught my eye. I don't see it that often and it is on my wish list! You are doing a great job with your garden.

Did you put the hosta pots in the garden with their pots or did you unpot them? I am considering placing some pots in the ground for the winter also. Last year I completely buried five 4 inch pots. The spring was very wet so I went digging for them. The media was soggy. I repotted them and they are doing fine.

Thank you, I really love my small collection even if I have to admit that this summer was quite hard with potting and planting and watering...and other plagues like snails and slugs and 8 weeks of unnormal heat...I hope I can lean back a little and enjoy next year :-)

I took around 20 out of the pots this weekend and planted them. I was thinking about putting some in pots into the ground, but I'm not sure if that works. I think it is too wet here for such experiments. Maybe I will get some woodchips to protect them a little better, but until now I lost only 4 in winter, so maybe I should not worry at all and do the same as every year, put them under the hedge and behind the house...will be quite crowded this year...

Silver Threads and Golden Needles is a strange little hosta, it looks really good when it is dry and with some sun on it, but wet it looks a bit ugly.

Frisian Pride is such a good grower and the color is amazing, I'm thinking about a high blue pot for it next year, that might look good...

And my big Valley's Wairere is getting new leaves, looks funny, those small things compared to the big old ones :-)

Thank you Karin for taking another picture of your Silver Threads and Golden Needles. I think it is looking great! So you say it is not so attractive when wet? It couldn't almost be ugly---let's call it unique! LOL

I have also taken on more than I should have this season. I am still repotting my hosta and I have more to do! I also sense that fall is soon approaching and I need to consider where all my pots are going to be stored for the winter. I may extend a small bed and do what you did---unpot and place them in the ground. Will you repot them again next year?

No, I will not repot them, only if they get too big in a few years and need dividing or if they do not look good together. Sometimes a hosta shows displeasure with the location, then I move it, but I learned through the years and it does not happen so often anymore.

I will get a few more Valley's in September and then the garden is really full and next year I can only buy dwarf hostas :-) And my main task will be caring for the more than hundred still in pots. I also need to build a shadow structure, so the plan is already full.

I'm just putting together some comparison pictures last year/this year and they grow so quick I'm afraid I definitely overdid it this year :-)
