Dining room wall decor...

We've lived in our house for three years now and are still working on filling up the walls, specifically in the dining room. What are your thoughts on this sign?

Versus this clock (same dimensions... 20" diameter) which I ordered as well and should arrive tomorrow:

On the long wall to the right is a formal china cabinet. We may hang some scones on either side of the China cabinet.

We will probably hang this on the opposite wall of the China cabinet (wall on the left):

I love the clock. While I love technology and use it often, I don't want to have to grab a "devise" to see the time. I like to glance up and say "Oh it's 9:18!"

It's strictly a personal choice, but I'm not too turned on by "word" signs. Everyone in the dining room is already "gathered," so they probably don't need instructions. JMNSHO

I agree with Caroline on the sign, and the casual style of it is very different from the clock. How would you describe yuor style? I see your room is very neutral colors; do you want any art etc. that adds a bit more color?

Is the clock you ordered this one? LightInTheBox 20"H Country Style Metal wall clock Home Décor Clocks ?

You may want to check the reviews on it, if it is. 17% are 5 star and 36% are one star.

I like the hanging wall gallery. It look personalize and you can custom it with the pictures of the family together. "Gather" has been like a generic sign for dining areas so it would be best if you'll have something that is your own. Do you have a larger empty wall in other corners? You may also add larger panel wall arts about eating and dining.

I'm to a fan of "word" signs - just not my taste. I like a wall clock in a kitchen but would not want one in my dining room.

And I hope you're not going to hang "scones" on the wall! They're going to get really nasty! Try "sconces" instead! I'm teasing you!

The sign is cute but better suited to the kitchen. Can you find a piece of local art? A vertical piece would be better.

    Thanks for the feedback!

My3dogs- my style is a mix of traditional and contemporary. I like cozy/pottery barn and usually stick to neutrals and play them up with hints of color. My main colors throughout my house are tans, grays, light blues/aqua, light green. I wouldn't mind to incorporate some color into the dining room but can't find anything I love. Depending on the season I usually change up the table... I have a pretty orange fall decorative runner and leaves and in the winter I do red berries. My summer centerpiece is pretty bland with just the white flowers because I couldn't find anything I loved.

And yes, that's the clock I ordered. I did read the reviews but most of the negative ones were about the color being lighter and I'm totally fine with that for my space. Figured I could send it back if it was really terrible. The size was right at 20" - and the price was definitely the best I could find!

Anglo- yes, scones on the wall would be terrible! Haha damn auto correct ;)

I think I'll try hanging the clock up when it comes in tomorrow and see how I feel about it. I can easily return the sign. I'm not usually big on word signs either but that one I didn't mind as much.

Here's some other photos of the room to get a better picture of what I'm working with. Please disregard all the crap and balloons... due to have a baby in a couple days and those were from my baby shower a couple weeks ago! We put the SCONCES up tonight. That big blank wall in the second photo is where we planned to hang the photo gallery.

Use different color combinations. Maybe you can replace the sign to something vintage like this...

And the opposite wall, accessories with some green to be more lively.

Thanks SiSi! Very interesting ideas. I'm just not sure how well it would fit in with the rest of my decor though. It's a little more traditional.

No opinion on the wall art, but wanted to comment that I like your curtains and i think they work very nicely in your room. Are they sheers? Anyway I like them.:)

Thanks, Sheila! Yes they are sheers :)

Honestly, I would do larger pieces of art rather than the sign, or clock, or even that gallery-thingy. I have some sort of a "thing" about not hanging photos on the wall in certain rooms...dining room being one of them. Plus...a bunch of small little things on the wall looks cluttery to me. Large, colorful art would look amazing!

Thanks all! My issue is trying to find large pieces of art that I like that are actually affordable. We are on a very tight budget right now with our second baby coming in a couple days. Which is also my other issue - time! Haha

What do you guys think of this set for the long wall instead of the hanging wall gallery? To bring some color in... plus this color would work really well in our house. And then I may do the Roman numeral clock in place of the Gather sign...

    A few other options...

One or two would be fabulous. I did something similar is my little dining area. I want that #2!

    This one? It's from Kohls

No, the next one is the one I would buy. For me! (Not that I need another anything lol).

Yes. A triptych would be nice. I've always liked Almond Blossoms. He painted that as a gift when his nephew was born.

That is very cool, I didn't know that!

Ps, Louise- your room is very pretty! Nice work!

New clock came in! Have yet to install the hands. Love it or hate it?

And I think I'm between these canvas art sets for the long wall - based on price and availability:

The clock is too similar to the candleholders.

I prefer the last one. It's different and should look nice with the wall color.

The clock is bronze/gold and the sconces are black. Might be the picture?

I can't pick art for other people, haha. It's so personal. Get what makes you smile. Measure the wall area and get something that's around 2/3rds of it. I love oversized canvases so, I'd fill the wall with something awesome if I could afford it!

It's not the color. It's the open metalwork.

Where is this one from? I think I might buy...darn I can't seem to make my post hold the copy/paste. I am really interested in the second possibility above, jlynn.

Mayflowers - gotcha. Hmm would you ditch the clock or the sconces ? Would it make a difference if I moved the sconces to the wall opposite of the clock on either side of some other type of framed piece?

    Louise- it's Pier 1 :)

Louise, that is new from Pier 1. I'm planning on buying it tomorrow for my living room. It's pretty big 47 x 35. I just hope it isn't too overwhelming.

Alright so we ended up purchasing the set of three canvases for the long dining room wall, and I like it but I don’t know if I’m sold on it. What do you guys think? Please disregard toy box lol

Some other pieces I like as possible replacements...

They're supposed to have only a few inches between them. They're more interesting than birches. They are so common that there must be a factory in China with hundreds of women, all painting birches.

As Mayflowers said, a tryptic is hung very close together, almost like one piece.

I like the triptych you bought very much, but look at the way all of those pictured in this post are hung....move yours to look like this:

I'd paint the grill the same as the wall and I'd throttle the guy who installed it not centered on that wall (if it had to be in such a prominent place - which I doubt).

Good call! I guess we installed them too far apart. I do like the way they look closer together better. I will try moving them and see if tha changes my mind! Re: the mass production of birch art- LOL! I just like the colors in those.
