It won't stay that way. The braid stays as long as it is tied and glued, but the pups coming from the bottom will be juvenile cylindrica until it matures.

What happens when the braided part starts growing? Does the glue come loose where they are glued together? Does the braid get too tight and they eventually need to be re-potted separately? I ended up buying one and re-potted it. The 3 plants were rubber banded together at the base, so I cut the rubber band so it wouldn't cut into the plants. The roots looked good. I left it braided. Curious to see what will happen. Thanks for your replies.

In my experience, the braided parts do not start growing. At least, mine have not. From what I can tell, the braided parts were rooted to give rise to the new leaves that grow randomly from the soil. Remember, these were grown, severed, braided and rooted, and as far as I can tell, the braided leaves have done their job. But -- mine weren't glued together either, only tied. It will be interesting to see what happens to your braided leaves since you cut the elastic band.

did you scrape off the glued-on rocks? if not, you definitely should or the new shoots won't be able to push through, or not very well anyway
