Looks like something that cross pollinated with a pumpkin in the past, a throw-back of some kind. It would help to know what species you planted and the source of the seeds.

Squash readily pollinate with any one of 50 other varieties so saved seed or "It came from the compost" ;-) can be just about any mutant.

concur, these are mongrels. but try them, often mongrel squash are good unlike, say, mongrel melons.

I am saving them as if they are winter squash. Right now we have so much fresh veggies from the garden that we can't keep up. And there are only so much you can give away. I will update to let you know how they taste when we get to it. Thanks all.

They look a lot like Fordhook Acorn squash.
