That must be such a dilemma, I genuinely like both colours. If you want your house to appear more vibrant choose the lighter shade. However the darker shade also looks like you wouldn't get as tired of it as fast.

I really can't say, they're honestly both beautiful! Let us know which option you end up going with!

i like the darker. saw a home recently that was similar to the lighter and it was a Giant Blueberry. not a good look.

you could get a greyer blue if you were nervous about it being too dark, i have a color crush for bm's britannia blue lately

I do think that you should remove the shutters from the triple window on the left side of the house and resize the current shutters so they are half the size of each window. Put the hardware on and your home will be very nice...this isn't your color scheme but it shows how the shutters should be sized. I prefer the darker as well. I think on houses the darker version of the same color is usually better since sunlight tends to lighten the color up once it's up in great expanse anyway.

There are two homes in our small town that were both painted dark blue recently. I have no idea what the colors are but they BOTH look terrible! In fact they look almost cartoonish. I am saying this only as a precaution. I think that blue houses have a hard time being a good look.

i think grey is the critical feature of most paint colors these days. clear colors just look odd.

Totally agree, ninigret I prefer clear colors and it has taken forever for me to get used to this grayed chalky trend.

Sometimes it helps to paint the samples on white foam board (you can get it at craft stores) and then move them around outside during the day. The gray-tan color I was positive I wanted for my house looked much too dark outside and I chose a lighter one.

I also prefer the darker one.

Love that Britannia Blue from ninigret. Would look awesome with white trim.

@Denita, thanks for the shutters tips. It will be interesting to see the look of the house when they are off. I'd like to get new shutters eventually, but one project at a time!

we're getting our house painted the britannia blue after labor day.

the good thing about having your house painted, it only needs to be in style 6-8 years, and then you can paint it the newest color du jour if it has changed.

and while i completely advocate painting the inside any color you like, stylish or no..... for the outside, not so much. unless one wants their neighbors to constantly be wondering 'what were they thinking'.

I had considered at SW color "Salty Dog," which is a brighter blue-navy. The blueberry factor came into play there, and I ruled it out.

I have no opinion re color choice ( other than a suggestion to go with whichever is more subtle since I think some blues can look, sort of "cheap" on a house for lack of a better word :). ), however, just adding my two cents, I hope you remove the two pyramid shaped shrubs while you're at it, unless you've already done so.

I scrolled through houzz to see homes painted in that color ninigret suggested upthread (BM Britiannia Blue). Only found one and Britianna Blue is used as an accent/trim color , but it is truly gorgeous, see below:

Darker.

I would love cream! My husband wants white. I think it's a pretty stark contrast with white. Yes, we are planning on a yellow front door. I also like a soft blue or red, but yellow is currently the front runner.

Or pick a creamy white , I think it would look more elegant than a stark white, especially with a dark blue. My neighbors just had their house painted in a very dark gray with stark white white trim. It looks somewhat garish ... not just me, others have commented on it also ( not to them though:) )

I love blue. There is a great craftmanesque style house that has blue and white and it just looks so crisp. Love it. We have a SW denim and white bathroom and I love that shade of blue as well.

I would go with the darker shade of blue on the right.

I am in the same situation. i like the darker of the two blues. I’m using the darker navy for doors, garage, and trim. i selected Marshmellow for the stone and am still pondering the house color. Good luck!
