Is there a way to put a leaf in that table? If so, I would put it in to give the table some more presence. I would remove the little plant stand in the corner, and see if you can find a narrow buffet. Until then, the cabinet with the mirror above is a great substitute for a buffet - you can store your linens and china. Even without a buffet, I would either augment the existing picture with more framed artwork to fill the wall, or substitute it with a much larger picture. Finally, you could easily recover the fabric of the chairs to bring more interest. A nice centerpiece, perhaps a new chandelier, and you're done!

The table is a refectory table and can be extended by 18" on each end. When I do that the end chair extends into the family room and is crowded. There is not enough width in the room to fit even a very narrow buffet. I like the idea of augmenting the existing art but don't know how to look good.

a new light fixture would do wonders, it fairly whimpers 'ignore me' now. and it doesnt have to be expensive, many value priced but interesting fixtures in the world.

The dining area is part of the kitchen. I like the idea of bigger artwork or a gallery wall but don't have a clue as to where to start. I like modern farmhouse and rustic. I need to see examples and sources. Please, any help out there?

Move the vase stand away. Move the oval mirror and server to where the vase stand was. Let the artwork star on the wall by itself.

Unfortunately the server cannot fit on the wall where the vase stand is. Also, the room is too narrow to fit the server behind the table. I like the livlier artwork from the website you suggested. Thank you! My current art measures 31.5" tall x 25" wide. Is this too small for the space where it is? If so, what would be a better size? Should I consider a gallery wall? Where do I begin?

Paint can do so much and is easy and inexpensive. I would paint the walls a nice refreshing but neutral green like Benjamin Moore Nantucket Breeze and extend the paint color down the hallway as well. Your dark trim creates a very dated look. I would paint all the dark trim, door frame and doors white (Benjamin Moore Mascarpone is a great trim color).

I would move the small chest and mirror to the far wall on the left side, so that it is facing the end of the dining table. You need more impact in the room. I would get a long buffet table for that long wall, with a large mirror to go above it. On that long buffet table I would put two tall narrow lamps on either side, so that way you have light reflecting from the mirror, and put a decorative basket or bowl or vase with flowers in the center.
