Try mirroring the wall in large rectangles and put bevels on all sides of each piece, take blue tape and lay out.

Your room is beautiful. You do have some nice reflective surfaces: the table,the tray, the sunburst mirror, the glass on the bird print, and all your metal lighting and tables and barware glass. But the tv and stand are both dark. I do think you could add a lighter reflective element in that area either in the form of single mirrored object above the tv or perhaps a mirrored tv stand that is a little higher. I think that if the whole wall is mirrored you will be watching yourself eat at the dining table! LOL

I'd change out the TV stand for a mirrored console where you can enclose all the media components behind doors.

Thank you for all your creative ideas. It seems the common theme is to use mirrors. That would certainly be a good way to complete my vision of a city chic pied-a-terre in San Francisco.

I love the mirrored console idea and I'd definitely hang the tv on the wall but I'd also frame it for a more polished look.

Reflective surfaces around a tv can be distracting. I would mount the tv onto the wall and below it mount a rectangular floating cabinet. Maybe match the finish to the legs on your chairs in the dining room and living area. If you have components to put inside then smoked glass sliding doors could hide or protect things from dust. Also, consider a pair of small sconces to the sides of the tv for ambient lighting, it always improves the picture quality. It would be nice if you could find sconces that speak to the sun burst you have over the bar cart.

You can try a sleek, modern, unique looking tall armoire to enclose the tv and hide the components. Otherwise you have a really beautiful space here. Congratulations!

You could possibly consider a textured or patterned wallpaper to put on the wall...

Love your space! I like the idea of a small, mirrored console-like table with doors to hide components, but I also think you should hang the television and then use large art pieces on the wall that are framed in black or mirror to tie everything together.

Given that your room has mostly creamy tones via your upholstery; I vote for a TV console in that color and not mirror as mirror would be too sparkly for this classy looking space. If you chose to wall mount, make sure to get a professional and verify the height. But consider if you will ever want to move it to a different direction or not as well.
Once you have a console in place, you may find that the height everything falls to will eliminate the need for anything above the TV. Try to get something around 30" tall to achieve this.

put the tv above the fireplace and move the picture to the blank space just for a minor tweak with no further redoing to start with. Then move one of the chairs that face each other over to this side to where the TV stand is now to balance the room. You could also switch the big picture to where the sculpture is in the dining room and put the sculpture above where the tv is now. This is hard to explain!

Beautiful space. I agree w/ majackermann to mount the television above the fireplace and move the bird print behind the dining area. If the television looks too small above the fireplace, you can color block the area around it with a light grey/taupe color similar to the sofa. I think this would take away some of the darkness of the television set and remove the cluttered feeling near the table.

i would most definitely paint the wall an accent color and get a new cabinet to house the tv components and cords.

I must agree with people who said the stand and TV is in competition with the fireplace. I would mount the TV (if possible) above the fireplace and completely got rid of the stand. If that is not possible I would use a more substantial console and still mount the TV above the console on the wall next to the fireplace. I would however remove the decorative wall piece above the dining room in both cases because it's too much.

Love the space and what you've done with it...I would also change out the dining room light fixture for something darker in order to balance the room a little better and have something to stand out against the white white of the kitchen.

beautiful room! i agree with the comments to paint the wall an accent color (ie greyeige) to combat the big black hole tv dilemna, or hanging the tv and framing it. If you have the extra cash sitting around they also have tv that look like a mirror when off as well. Love that bird picture. Have you posted pics of your other rooms?

I think the scale is just off. Without changing location, I would get a cabinet/ shelving unit that is interesting and serves a dual purpose to consider the proximity to the table.

How about a soft color to continue the subtlety of the room (maybe pick up an accent color or the silver from those sofa cushions), larger scale, multiple cubbies to add some interest and usefulness? Some attractive napkin holders in a bowl, a few cacti, the tv, a pretty vase or decorative bowl...

It's all about scale and balance, and the tv console is out of balance with fireplace. Move the bird picture, much larger tv console to balance the size of fireplace, and mount the tv to the wall above it. Put darker objects on the mantle for height and to appear to fill space to balance the tv screen. We were always taught in school, never hang a mirror if it does not refect something of interest back at you..... lots of great advise her. Lucky girl.

I agree. I like the idea of the TV above the fireplace. It will open up the room a lot more. How about putting a silver ornate picture frame around the TV to tie in with the elegant look through out the space. Also it would bring in the shiny elements as well.

Your room is beautiful. The tv seems like the odd man out. Perhaps placing it over the fireplace would integrate it into the room better or removing all together if that is an option.

My initial thought was to put the TV above the fireplace, but unfortunately I can't do that. So, the TV has to be where it is now. I guess this makes it a bit more challenging; but with so many creative minds out there, I'm looking forward to finding the best solution.

You did a great job in these rooms! My suggestion would be to mount the TV to the wall on a pivoting mount so you can turn the TV towards the kitchen or living area. Then mount a rod and curtain over it so you can disguise it when you want to. It'll look like a window and no one will know it's the TV. With the new IPad Ios5 technology and an Apple TV you can watch movies, have still pictures, surf the net all wirelessly with out having any more cables and clutter. So cool! No need for a buffet or consol that would take up more space. I've seen people also mount art on a track to hide a wall mounted TV as well. Hope that helps some.

Well, since you cannot relocate the TV then at least change the sculpture in the dining room to over the fireplace and the bird picture to where the sculpture is in the dining room. That in itself should create some good balance. Perhaps just mounting the TV a little higher and putting a bookcase under it would work some magic in a less severe tone of color.

The primary purpose of the flatscreen is to have the ability to hang it on the wall. The unit you have is too small in scale, and the tv is too low to watch comfortably. Why can't you put it above the fireplace?

I agree, hang the tv on the wall a little higher than its current height. A slim console will hide the cords and allow use as a buffet. The space is already so beautiful as it is. I personally feel no need to hide the tv. I think it is a fine size and maybe just a touch too low. I love the room as it is. Having a buffet serving area is a nice addition to an already inviting, well coordinated room.

I would find a very sleek armoire cabinet to house the tv and all the equipment with it so you can close off when not using. Then find a very cool large (tall) mirror to hang above the fireplace that will make the room seem twice the size. This will also give the room the sense of taller ceilings. It will also complement the height of the window treatments.

You could mount it on the wall and build a 2 way mirror over it.
