Decor for Two Walls Above Couches

After moving our TV to above the fireplace, we will have a couch against one wall and a loveseat against another.

I would love ideas for decor as I'm not sure how to decorate both walls without it looking cluttered, but fear that if I only do a gallery of photos over the couch, the wall above the loveseat will seem bare.

Please excuse the mess in the photo below! The wall with the tv (currently) will have the loveseat. I am probably going to take down the photos that are currently above the couch and start over.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, suggestions, etc.

Stop for a second and answer this question before you move the TV. How comfortable is it to view the TV where it is now? Do you have any problems with it at this height?

Now, spend some time sitting on your couch looking at the taped square over the mantle. How comfortable is that?

Is this change really worth It?

I agree with Carol. My choice would be to leave the TV as is and add art work over the fireplace. Sorry...just not a fan of TV's over a fireplace.

I don't really want to break ranks, as I absolutely agree with leaving the TV where it is. However, if moving it is what you really want to do, you could consider hanging art in the shapes and sizes below. Forgive the very rough rendition.

I agree..Unless you can move the TV lower..

If you do move it anyway, start with proper and full drapes on both sides of the windows-that will close in the wall

a bit and warm it up. Also invest in lamps/shades that are more in scale and style with your furniture. Can't tell what colors you are in to but choosing a couple for drapes, lamps and a couple of toss pillows will help dress the room. Try to choose some art that compliments the colors and your style. Not sure of your budget - Target, BBB etc all have a great coordinated selections. Tons of canvas selections on this site and many others. Would go with one large or a pair of coordinating pieces over at least one of the sofas. Landscapes, maps, vintage posters..

Thanks all for your thoughts so far! We have thought a lot about the change. I was resistant at first to the idea of the TV above the fireplace, but it is the only option for opening up our living room. We really need the loveseat against the other wall. We will have an articulating tv mount that will allow us to pull it to a lower position for comfortable viewing.

As far as the decor, I have been at a standstill in this room for a while. I hate the coffee table, end tables, and lamps, so those will all go.

I appreciate the mock-up, Rina. That is helpful.

If the TV has to move, I agree with Rina's suggestion for placement of art.
