Hello! I live in the Los Angeles area and I don't have a lot of experience with bulbs in this climate, or with bulbs in containers. I grew up back east and I am used to the plant bulbs in the ground in the fall, bloom in spring after the frost pattern.

I am hosting a baby shower in September and would like to give potted bulbs as shower favors. I plan on planting in terra cotta pots with the saucers turned upside-down on top and with ribbon wrapped around the outside.

My question is - what kind of bulbs should I use? I need a bulb that is 1) good in small containers 2) easy to care for 3) can be planted in a container in September, without needing to pre-fridge treat and 4) does well in USDA zones 10-11 (So Cal).

Any suggestions? I've had some luck with freesias in containers myself - could those fit the bill?
