EXPERT OPINION NEEDED

Hi all HOUZZER's. I'am in need of your expert opinions. I have 2 BARRYMORE Sofa's. Both are down stuffed and very comfortable.
They are about 10 years old. Would they be worth reupholstering?
Would like to do them in a jewel tone velvet.

Hi Harley,

If you love the sofas and think that their frames will stand the test of time (both in structural function and aesthetics), then it may be worth reupholstering them. Depending on the fabric that you select, it may be worth the price, otherwise the price of the fabric could exceed the cost of buying a new sofa.

You can also have more fill added if needed.

I think it comes down to whether you love the comfort and the frame of the sofa!

My goodness 10 years for a sofa is not that old, especially if it is in good condition.

Take a picture and some basic measurements to a good upholsterer and ask for a quote and yardage requirements. Sometimes fabric ordered through the upholsterer from sample books is much more expensive than ordering a fabric online. If ordering online you can ask for samples first.

Thank you for your comments. The sofa's are in very good shape. I bought them 2nd hand and they looked brand new.
I'am wondering if the product is made well enough to put money into having redone. I do really like the style of them.

Barrymore is a high end, well made, Canadian furniture manufacturer. Well worth reupholstering.

Compare a new barrymore to an re-upholstered barrymore. That is your answer. I have a Harden sofa going on 20 years, the 8 way has just begun to sag and I am reupholstering it for sure; I cannot duplicate the exact new Harden for what I think I can get it reupholstered for....if you bring your own fabric it often cannot work or the upholster just adds extra fees to cover what he is not making on fabric, but a reputable upholsterer will do a great job I think.

Barrymore sounds like reputable and high end furniture. They might recommend an upholsterer and sell you fabric also. It's worth a call. My next sofa will definitely be silk velvet from Holland + Sherry!
