Thanks for the response..No, wall color is not orange, I do not know the exact name but it is close to cream color..Here I am sharing other walls of the room.

A nice colourful piece of art over the fire place will look good too. Your room has great bones, it just needs finishing touches.

i was trying to copy a pic of a living room here in houzz but have no idea how to do it...basically it has different throw pillows in orange ( a sort of burnt orange), some bright blue (turquoise, peacok) and green ( a sage-ish) and they actually all go very well together and brighten up the room. persoanlly with the sofa colour you have I love blue and/or orange.

eleri, if you want to copy photos like I did, I click on the photo and it comes up with prompts. Click on "embed" and a box comes up with 3 options. I'm not sure which is correct, but I click on the bottom one to highlight it then right click and "copy". Then you come back to your post and right click again and "paste". I always have two windows open to do this.

Thanks a lot Olldroo and Eleri for those beautiful tips. I agree that is too much light in that room. Here are my few questions:

Curtain: Do you think patterned or striped curtains will go or simple plain cream curtain will work.

Over the fireplace: Our TV will be wall mounted here, we already invested on this:( What kind of art piece you suggest? Can I put it on Mantel? Also I like to have a colorful painting on some wall, but here we do not have much room, one wall has big windows and the other wall is just behind stairs.

Hi, anindita, sorry, we are on different time zones here. You have the pattern in the rug and if you want to keep the striped cushions, add other patterned cushions, or keep your options open for other decorating, I would keep the curtains a plain cream.

Do watch the height of the TV over the fireplace, you don't want sore necks watching it so I don't think you will really have room for anything on the mantle. You would have room on the wall under the stairs for a storage unit or shelving if you felt you had the need and you could add some interesting decorative pieces to this or some photo frames or place random photos on that wall similar to the first photo or alternatively you could do a feature wall of photos/art going up the stair case which will be visible from your lounge room and make art in the lounge room unnecessary - second photo

Do keep the lamps the same distance from the fireplace.

That coffee table is amazing, I love it, but only get the larger one and let it be the standout piece. Keep other side tables very simple so they don't compete.

Hasten slowly, get your curtains and the coffee table first, change some of your cushions to more colourful ones, add a colourful throw if you want one and then see what the room needs. Don't try to do everything at once.
