Turn the table the other way around and just have 2 chairs or 2 benches. Should give you a bit more room to have a couple of stools.

We have a family of 6 so does not work to take away seating. Also turning table sideways blocks door opening.

You said you had a dining room, so could you use that when the whole family eats together, rather than using it Thanksgiving and Xmas - or maybe it's too formal.

You can't get 6 bar stools there, so what's the point? We need to see the other walls or open areas that adjoin this space to determine what might be done to make it useful and to incorporated it into what else is going on around it.

I just would like 4 bar stools here for my kids. Would use our dining room for eating meals together. Will add some more photos...

Can you pull the existing table closer to the door and still be able to use the door ? If so...move the table a bit...
Check craigslist or secondhand furniture stores for inexpensive yet comfortable counter chairs/stools to see if you will use the counter first. And to see how much space you really have for the style of the bar stools you want( stools vs chairs, backs or no backs)
If you do use the bar stools consider a convertible/ extension table that easily converts from 4 to 6 and have both the bar stools you want and a table for 4 for looks and 6 to eat at!
