I agree that the console table is a great idea. The area looks a bit dark. You could add lamps on each end of a console table and put a framed mirror above it. Mirrors are available from contemporary to classic which allow you to put your style choice in play. They are not expensive. You can also put seasonal decorations or flowers on the console to welcome guests at different times of the years. Also, you can put a trunk, basket, or storage unit under the console to keep shoes or items you keep near the door.
