If you rub catnip leaves on your face, arms and put the leaves in the inner band of your hat mosquitoes will fly around you but they wont land. Seems they don't like the smell.

Ahh the minty smell of home ownership. I spray the vertical surfaces around my house in a band and it helps. At least for a while. I put on a funny hat and walk around with the sprayer trying to think like a mosquito. Where would I lite and wait for a warm body to walk or fly by? I don't spray the ponding water, but I don't let it get old either. We keep water stations and bird baths for woodsy creatures and they get refilled from time to time.

Sometimes the catnip works and sometimes it doesn't. Right now the mosquitoes are the size of Lear Jets, so I'm just hoping they don't land on me and knock me to the ground. They were terrible this morning and I didn't want to use a repellent since I was going to come right inside with my produce and can. We are on acreage, surrounded by thousands of acres of grassland/woodland/wildlife management area land and the Red River. No matter what we do on our own acres, those little devils just fly in from elsewhere. I wish they didn't. I could do a good job of controlling them here for the most part, but then others just fly in.
