Thanks so much for your reply! It's hard to tell from the photo, but there are planters at the main door, but everyone comes to the farm door as they pass it first :-(
I'm thinking of increasing the stone area and placing a bench facing the walkway so people will be encouraged to walk "up" the walkway rather than enter in my kitchen! Especially for dinner parties. ;-)

We do need to paint though... do you like white?

Completely agree with acm. I really like the white too! You are on the right track to draw the eye down to the main entrance. Planters, fountains, flags, and seating are all good ways to "welcome" your guests to the main door. Accent lighting can really help as well. Good luck!

Beautiful home! Yes to all of acm's suggestions. I actually like the current siding color. Nice contrast with the white trim around the windows, columns, etc. It looks like the downspouts are black. I would paint them to match the siding.

I also like your current siding and shutter colors. I do think that people stop at the secondary door because you set it up like a main entry as mentioned up thread. If you paint that secondary door to blend with the siding and paint your front door a different color, people will come to the main entrance.

I was looking at the Ben Moore website yesterday at their highly saturated colors (called the Affinity Color Section). There are some great colors that would work nicely with the siding color and shutter color you have now. Take a look

Thanks acm, are you saying to paint farm door white same as siding? Or I was thinking pale grey for the shutters and paint farm door that color? Currently both doors are black was planning a shade darker than shutters for both doors.

Thanks Danita, I am headed to BM now to talk to them and will look at this line! Hopefully their color specialist can help me... it's a huge expense to paint the exterior and I don't want to regret color choice.
The house is on an angle, and we are also on rock(ledge) hence the mulch hill in front. Sometimes I wish I could build out the front and make a glassed enclosed porch so it's more obvious that that is the main entrance. We are also on wetlands and it's very shaded and dark at the front. I'm also looking to lighting the trees again to cast the eye forward.

momtwo, are you thinking of that door and shutter color with white siding? I think something with more contrast might be better...at least based on how it appears on my screen.

We live near the water and I like the washed look too. This is so confusing. :-(
Incidentally, I like the light fixtures on the second picture too. I just want to upgrade the look and make it feel more fresh.

I'm hoping you all could provide some last minute feedback as even though we landed on our colors, my neighbor has me second guessing. She likes the gray :-/

We decided to go with White Dove on the siding, Iron Gate on the shutters and New York State of Mind in high gloss on the front door (farm door will be painted dove white).

Any last thoughts?

Lovely selections! I hope you have painted up some large sample pieces to see if they work but the selections sound great. I love that front door color.
