Johnmerr, can you post a link for prevention regimen? I have applied Neem twice at 3 week intervals recently, so not a preventive approach. Damaged foliage remains but I see a lot of new unblemished foliage coming up.

The damage has been done; the critter is gone; but will return next year in greater numbers if you do not use prevention. There is a "search" box at the top of this page you can use to learn about CLM prevention. The most common prevention measures used here are Spinosad (topical) and Imidacloprid (systemic); the important ingredient is timing; you must apply them before the arrival of the CLM. I personally do not like Neem; because it is broad spectrum and can kill your beneficials (other insects that work for you for free), like wasps.

I was wondering, if in a small setting with a handful of trees, would it help to put a fine netting up over the tree to prevent the moth laying eggs? It is only until the new flush is matured as the young leaves are preferred for the larvae?? Wishful thinking? I mean nothing different then protecting cherries from birds :)

That would work very well; if you leave the net during flowering and fruit set, it will also give you seedless fruits. No bees, no seeds.
