Posting pictures of the house will get better responses.

A bad idea that doesn't suit the house you have is my bet.

perpetualtodo - if you hang around Houzz long enough, you come to understand that a lot of people, especially the pros, have very strong views on mixing brick and stone - and generally, they're against it unless it's on an historic house.

The issue seems to be that mixing two different finishes of similar scale is a design no-no. And there are some fairly hideous examples of the mix gone wrong out there, I must say. The other issue is that the stone and/or brick needs to look like a natural part of the structure, not a decorative add-on - and that might be difficult with some house styles.

So, when you ask for a "design rule" you get a fairly predictable response. I wouldn't necessarily call it rude, just blunt and to the point.

I think you might get something other than the "don't even think it" response if you actually posted a picture of your home. Not everyone agrees with the "don't mix the two" mantra ( there've been some quite heated discussions between pros on
this particular issue - they can make for quite entertaining reading!) Maybe stone would look okay, or maybe there are other or better solutions.

you really need to post pics. Based on the 1950s/60s ranch homes we've worked on I can't imagine it's the right choice, but maybe you have something different going on.

You can mix brick and stone just fine, we do it all the time. The bigger issue is scale and proportion and how changing one thing is like pulling a thread on a sweater. Where do you stop? Without seeing a picture of what you have, and ideally one of what you're going for, my instinct is to be really skeptical.
