The wall behind the fridge is slanted as well that is why the fridge can only be so tall....

we are redoing the entire thing :) $$$ !!! probably going with white cabinetry tile floors, carerra-style counter tops, appliances, etc. We bought the condo a few months ago and just finishing the bath room so on to the kitchen .....

I really want to eliminate the "restaurant style warming lights" over the counter tops but am noot sure how to get lighting there.

Its a great condo but the kitchen is quite the nightmare.

the kicker .... this unit was featured in Architectural Digest in the 1980's Must have been a VERY slow month.

I'm intrigued. How about, when you get a chance, have a pic taken similiar to the first posted, with you standing facing the camera, back to the fridge. Really need a good perspective shot . The slanted ceilings in two dimensional pics are a tough visual.

Just thinking out loud, some ideas that popped into my head looking at your photos:
- move the fridge to the wall where the washing machine is?
- and there could be space for an eye-level oven too there
- extra deep counter to prevent banging head?
- counter and cabinets running through a bit further towards the door (where the sink is)
- cooker where the fridge now is?

Just one more bit of info, if possible. Take a level ( probably a 4') and , off the nose of the counter, the number of inches to the ceiling straight up. Have an idea or two perculating. LOL

Over the island you could do cabinetry..of course I hate when this is done but in this case, you need far more storage. Plus the slanted walls are not a focal point great to look at anyway. Do more functions in an island and the pantry on the door side

Backing up carolins thoughts- any input on incorporating more of that washing machine wall?

I am 6' the fridge is not LOL, the height from the counter top to ceiling is 58" the fridge is 60"

carolins - the wall where the washer dryer is - the washer /dryer are set back into what used to be a closet in the bathroom. the rest of those cabinets are only 12" deep. BTW I appreciate everyones comments - seems you all like a challenge :)

can't deepen the washer wall because the doorway would be blocked.

Looking to move the sink under the window, and eliminate the turn around counter and make a single island in the center. As it is now you get trapped in there LOL

I have a friend who is a kitchen designer and every time she comes over she throws her hands in the air and says "I'll think of something eventually - get me a glass of wine" LOL

Any thoughts on under counter refrigeration and freezer? I'm thinking of have a custom cabinet built for storage where the existing fridge is

Well, I'm enjoying a glass of wine at the moment (I'm in a different time zone, in Europe), but it hasn't really sparked a brilliant idea yet.
I did think that the washer/dryer were set back a bit. I was also thinking of a way to eliminate the cooker part of the island, so the tall cabinets could be deep enough to house a fridge, but I just realized that deeper cabinets would block the way to the door (the wine worked).

I like the idea of an island in stead of the U-bend. Could you incorporate the wall with the two paintings in your kitchen design? I'm not opposed to under counter fridge and freezer, but if we can find another spot for them... And then the cabinets under the counter all nice deep drawers, more practical storage than cabinets with doors.

The existing fridge is a 70" deep and 29" wide

no two separate decks. I love this kitchen I wish I could pop in two more skylights - but the roof line and turret doesn't allow it.

Did you ever remodel your kitchen, Remike? I am struggling with a layout for my kitchen in a true A-frame house we purchased. I just love the cottage feel, but the slanted walls are a real challenge and a space waster. It's a steep angle, 18" on 12". I'd love to see pictures of your kitchen if you have finished. Thanks!
