I should probably clarify that I'm not replacing the kitchen floor, but the dining area has a door that opens into the kitchen.

Cabinets are temporary. Floors are a long time. Pick what you like and you think will look good for a long time. I don't think they should match.

It doesn't have to match, but I would go with a little warmer flooring to match the warmer tones in the cherry. The samples you have look a little too cool.

Finally a post that addresses my problem! Hi there! I have been struggling for a few years now and haven't replaced our floors near the kitchen. I remodeled the kitchen but did not rip out the flooring because it is open concept to the rest of the house and is about 800 SF of it (plus the rest of the house has a different flooring as it's a new addition). We also have cherry cabinets and it has been a nightmare trying to get something that doesn't clash (but ours are not as dark as yours). Now, having said that, reddish type of oak (if you can find it), seems to go fairly well and is lighter than dark cherry cabs and is a liveable type of flooring for the rest of the house.

I definitely agree with @Sina Sadeddin Architectural Design; you need to stick with warmer tones that won't compete with what you have. I don't think you should match the colour of your cabinets, but I would certainly go with something that blends with them, unless you are planning to Reno in the near future. I think a cool-toned wood will clash and only serve to emphasize the red tone (it seems that you are tired of?) in your cabinets. However, if you no longer like the red at all, then I think you should certainly go with whatever flooring you love, and consider perhaps painting/staining the cabinets, if you can't replace them outright. No sense in spending money on a floor you won't be happy with in the long run. Nothing is ever easy, is it? Good luck!

It really is hard to find wood or LVP that coordinates with existing cabinets and/or trim. Be patient and keep looking and trying until you find something you love. Your cabinet color is beautiful but I agree with you that having that dark red throughout the house is not a look I would want.

I agree that the floors you've shown above are a little too cool. It would work but you could do better. The sample on the right has just a bit of red that would help tie in the cabinets. But, the flooring you have is a bit too informal/rustic compared to the crisp classic cabinets you have. I love the rustic look of flooring that has been in style lately but you might have to dial that in a bit.

Take a look at Shaw's Wynfield Hickory prairie dust -- it is light with a little hit of warm red tones Prairie Dust when you scroll through the pictures there is a white kitchen -- look behind that and there is cherry furniture that will give you an idea of how it could look for you. There is also a picture with a cherry table.

I noticed that the flooring you found isn't super light. This is a darker flooring that might work. It is by Paramount maple leaf this might be more red than you like. Maybe the medium tone is not what you're looking for and/or not enough contrast. I don't really love light wood. I am more drawn to a medium tone. So, that has been a struggle for me.

I've also attached a photo of my own floor. I absolutely LOVE it! Not too red, not too formal or rustic. The darkness of the knots compliments my cherry crown moulding and column wihtout making the whole floor too dark. Lots of variation in the color of the planks which was important to me. It is beautiful and perfect!! I have a hallmark dealer near me and will try to look before this weekend. I am not sure how that old post got bumped up but I am glad it did. Thank you for the update and pictures. I would love to hear if you feel it is holding up well after 2 years. :) I assume it is since you said "I absolutely love it".

Found another photo on the Hallmark website that is pretty accurate. Although I guess it really depends on the lighting in your home. Yes, it's holding up very well. I have a lot of grand-kids that come to visit often and I also keep my son's dog when he's out of town and the floor still looks new. I use a microfiber mop for daily sweeping (oh, who am I kidding? it's more like weekly!) and Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner when needed.
