I'm a horrible decorator but the nesting urge is strong! =) Any suggestions on layout decor, colors, temporary wallpaper, etc is highly welcomed. Baby #1 will be here in about 7 weeks and I just want a colorful but peaceful space for her to call her own. I've posted some pictures of what is currently in her room. The only thing missing is her glider which we have yet to pick out.

I think you need a changing table too. The bed is well positioned so you can peek in from the door and check on her without disturbing. The glider should be placed where the wicker trunk is so daddy or others passing by can speak with and see the two of you without coming into the room and causing distraction. You'll be able to see out the window from there and keep an eye on the hallway. Put the changing table left of the window for light and to have the closet and clothes close at hand. It looks like the closet is crammed full of storage. I would go to a closet/storage center or to your local Lowe's and build in like this. She may not be your only child and the nursery closet will be important for years. You could start by taking that big shelf out and moving the chest into the closet to reduce bulk in the room. Put your small bookcase in place of the chest. Cordless blinds or shades are a must. I like your neutral wall color. Art and accessories, a floor lamp by the glider and a lamp on the bookcase will be nice. Pick up the colors in your rug, which is a nice classic but feminine. I don't understand the wicker chest unless you're storing bedding there. Anything with a lid like that can be a hazard once kids are running around. I'd move it out, as well as floor lamps; you can remove them at that stage in her growth.

A light sage green color for the walls would pair nicely with the crib color and rug.

There's lots of room for art. If you don't trust yourself to find a couple of big posters or a set of smaller prints, then you might do some colorful letters like this that will add cheer and be fodder for lots of spelling and discussion games later (ask me how I know):

Where do you plan on changing the baby? I would add curtains to coordinate with the rug.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but you could add a nice little touch with a big letter "G" for girl or maybe her initials hanging on the wall or set on the dresser or something. I purchased some numbers for my house once from here because they let me pick w/e font I want, which is nice. And their quality was really amazing (guaranteed for life).

Agree with deco.'s suggestions. Consider painting bookshelf white and place 1 - 2 white shelves over it. Find white or pink baskets with liners to go on shelves for books, toys, etc. Place on shelves a soft fluffy animal or doll , piggy bank, clock, jack, picture, etc . Since time is short before baby girl arrives, perhaps paint front of drawers to chest. When time allows, could drill holes in drawers for some girlie knobs. Hang picture over chest. Home Depot carries the shade for window. Love Pottery Barn for kids, but Target has some nice
Nursery items, too. Coordinate colors with rug and bedding. Like the initial idea for over the changing table. Could take a picture of baby and have put on canvas for over changing table ( Costo's ). Canvas pictures for over bed Could even do two pictures over bed and use letters to spell out first name vertically between pictures. ( Hobby Lobby)

I like it so far, love the pretty rug. However, you need a few more things: colorful artwork, window treatments, and a changing table. Do you have room for rocking chair? Do you want a mobile? Congratulations on the new baby! You are about to begin a wonderful and unforgettable love affair with this little darling. Hooray for babies!

I just noticed your dresser; please be sure to secure it to wall. It's an Ikea one that has been recalled in past because they can topple over when not secured to wall. Too many sad outcomes not to use precaution.

Do NOT buy a changing table. Total wasted piece of furniture; just use your regular dresser (anchored to wall) and change. Any on the floor where rolling off isn't a risk.

Focus on good storage pieces that will hide toys and clutter, like a bookcase with baskets as an earlier poster suggested.

No art over the bed. It's dangerous for baby.

Curtains ok but watch out for dangling cords with blinds.

Are you wanting to go bolder with colors or more pastel?

Also, forgot to add that when looking for curtains, get BLACKOUT. This will help once baby starts sleeping in their own room!

Congrats to the Mom-in-waiting!
Newborns get to be crawlers and toddlers really fast, so decorate as if she is 2-3 yrs old. If the rug is staying, use the colors in the rug. Please avoid long drapes, which can be grabbed and pulled down. Secure to the wall anything that can be climbed up or toppled over. A border at chair rail height will be visible at child’s eye level.
