Bedding Help, Please!

This is the fabric for the headboard we have ordered for our guest room in the new house. It will have nailhead trim as shown. The bed is a king, I have two club chairs, nightstands and a dresser that are perfect with it (sorry, no pics of those available tonight). The chairs are in almost the same colors, but it's an Aspen leaf design, goldfish leaf outline on a burnt oranges to rusty back backgrounds. Dresser is a burnished gold and nightstand are midsummer toned wood. But, I am at a loss in for bedding and kicking myself for not thinking about it before I ordered the headboard. Any thoughts? I am open to duvets, quilts, matelesse, really almost anything! Help!

If you could show exactly what you're working with people could help you better. Wall color? Rug?

This will be a challenge and I understand your concern. Yes, there are lots out there, but you are limited as you already have the headboard and chairs.

I think we do need to see everything that you have in order to make recommendations.

You might have to have something made to order.

I love grey and white with orange, so I would look into grey and whites. Long story, our master BR was supposed to be grey but I gave the painters the wrong can. What color are your walls?

It is a bit hard to show everything at once because it is a new build, but here is the room painted - from different angles - SW Agreeable Gray down 50%. No carpet yet, but ordered in a darker grey. Trim will be the color of the door. I willl edit to add the chest, chairs and nightstands.

edited to add chest and chair fabric.

Take a look at these. Most of them have texture and pattern and even solids with texture. Anthropology

Your walls are gray......I would go with a pale gray or taupe (depending if the walls are more gray or have a little brown in them) matlasse coverlet or quilt and shams ....just me, but I find duvets messy looking. Even cream might work because of the gold tones in the fabric and furniture. Then some rust and gold throw pillows. Done! Love your fabrics!

I love the look of anthropology bedding but I have owned two different comforters of theirs and spent over 300 per set and each lasted exactly three months before showing rips at seems. I am done with their products. The look and their prices far surpass their actual quality.

I have a colored and patterned headboard/bed and don't find myself in any particular trouble over finding bedding (well except that I like more bedding that I can buy lol)

I'm with Yayagal..if it's something that speaks to you, mojomom, of course

but really, there are tons of bedding. Or else to me, there are tons. Combining gray tones and red and golden ones would also work very well, as joaniepoanie suggested..you can combine them in a pattern in a quilt for example, or go for say bedding in one color, and throw pillows and throws in other.

of course I'm not a shiny example of objectivity either, since I for example am not a great fan of matelasse. But it wouldn't matter had I thought it's the best for the room.

Also, if you want to look in person, because it's back to school, check out BB&B, and all the department stores (maybe try the flagship location in your town) if you want to see something in person.

then we have different experiences roarah

that's true, with Anthropologie one can be lucky or not..I usually am. They sell different brands, so it will depend on a brand..or to some degree a type of a product..and might be a miss, so I've already educated myself of what not to get there, and what still to get.

(but I didn't pay so much..one was a twin and I waited for sale..another, a queen, I found on eBay-very different price..I imagine if I payed the full price and it would start tearing like you describe, I'd bring it back to them very fast. and they'd take it back. they have pretty good customer service, I must give it to them)

but I do have two totally great, very fine quality sets of bedding from them, and two or three throws..and..one throw pillow I think? and these quilts..and really, no complaint about these, and I have most of them for several years.

I highly recommend OneKingsLane, Gilt, and RueLaLa as huge sources of discounted(or so they say lol) bedding..I try to go by the brand there. If I'm familiar with it. That's where I find high quality linen, and cotton, and some throws and accent pillows as well.

as for seeing things in person-Tuesday Morning sometimes can have great bedding for half the price..but you'll never know what and when exactly, same happy thing can happen in TJMaxx which I check from time to time if I need something

    Iznik is gorgeous

(oh my now I want it myself of course)

(it's very expensive..which make one both happy and sad lol..sad because too expensive, happy since you feel like you've just saved your money and can spend it on "three new hats"..)) but really, one gorgeous bedding. I hope the price truly reflects the quality. They also say it's linen..and I love linen)

With the warm colors in the items you've shown I would choose a cream quilt with matching pillow shams, something that has quite a bit of texture, and then have smaller pillows in front of the sham that have the rust color in them, with perhaps gray or cream. The headboard makes such a statement that I wouldn't have a patterned quilt, which might make for a busy-looking bedroom, but everyone has different taste. If you can find a quilt with a small pattern of rust and cream that might work too. I suppose gray bedding might also be an option but I can't really visualize it.

You already have a lot going on so go with all white bedding. White sheets and cases, and a white scalloped edge matelasse coverlet. Bed Bath and Beyond carries them as does Horchow (there's are more expensive). Your headboard is stunning - let it be the star.

A bedroom should be a restful, serene place - we're supposed to SLEEP there! Simple is always better, and a cover that need not be removed before going to bed is a plus. I use a very thin quilt on my bed, and in the winter, I put a down BLANKET (NOT comforter/duvet) under the quilt. Considering my bedroom is usually in the mid-50's at night in the winter, I think you can take my word that it is plenty warm that way!

Thanks everyone! I think I will go with a white or ecru matelesse or quilt and add decorative pillows after it comes together. I forgot that I have a very special leaf quilt in ecru, pale mustards, pale greyed greens that a former housekeeper made for us (really for DH because he saw her more). It is too small for the primary bedding, it will look great folded at the foot of the bed.

Just to investigate, I went to the bed website (small co. in Utah). They had some gorgeous coordinating fabrics and make the bedding sets, but $2,000+, is just out of my budget with everything else we need for the new house. Also besides price, it might be too much for the room.

everybody's and his definition of serene..:) colors and patterns make me feel very restful and calm for example. too much of other's people serene-and I start having a strange desire to jump off the cliff..or to dissappear into the sea..in short, to dissappear

    it's all so very personal

and as such, my opinion on it doesn't matter..what matters is what mojomom wants..and mojomom, your handmade quilt sounds truly special, and will go perfectly with your preferred bedding, at least from your description and how I see it in my head. I'm sure will be beautiful!

(2K for bedding??? and people think I'm a big spender! while I'm a treasure to cherish..))
