Coverlets are they like a pillow case but for a bed?

When I think of the word cover, I'm thinking it must cover something, sorry I'm a lay person at this, but I want to get it correct. Does a coverlet do what a pillow case does but for the comforter, can you get like a a down, comforter and put inside it, I feel so unintelligent.

To answer you question on what a coverlet is, its very similar to what people call a comforter. Its generally quilted together with a polyester filler and a basic cotton type backing. The most common type of bedding in todays market are a duvet cover, which is like a giant pillowcase for your duvet and a coverlet. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
