Hi All, Thinking about a kitchen rug for under our table. Do you think this one matches okay with our kitchen?

Thanks!

yes, it matches. are you in the middle of painting the kitchen or the window? just noticing all of the paint on the window trim. is that going to be white? are you doing some sort of backsplash or is that paint color staying? seems like you're trying to match the rug w/the blue paint.

    Hi All,

Definitely painting window trim white, and we're still
deciding on a tile backsplash. I really don’t want to do a white backsplash,
but I can’t seem to find something in a different color that I like. What do
you think best complimentary colors are for both the backsplash and rug?

I do really like the subtle stripes in the rug I’m thinking about, too.

Here’s the table (excuse the wall, bead board pending
installation soon). I really would like to stain the table top a different
color, but maybe I’m doing too much designing in my head, lol.

Also, that Safavieh rug is pretty!

the top looks like a hard maple. staining it darker wouldn't be a good choice. that type of wood just won't do dark. Either replace it with an oak table you can stain, or paint the top of this one and coat w/a heavy poly.

I like the rug you selected and think the style will work well under your table. Concern would be cleaning it, as it looks like you have little ones. Maybe, for now, that rug in a smaller size in the actual kitchen, in front of the sink/dw (not too small) and think about painting the table a coordinating color to liven up the dining area until the kiddos are older?

it's a jute rug, are those hard to clean? I'm willing to put some elbow grease into cleaning it if I have to.

jute isn't known for it's cleaning ease. I would check the cleaning instructions first. normally the fibers will soak in a spill and stain. you could see if you could treat it w/scotchguard or something.

    Hmmmm, okay. How about sisal?

same. they're both a natural fiber, rough. jute is the stuff they put on the cat scratching posts! What does it say for cleaning? if you want something on the cheaper side and easy cleaning, look for polypropylene

Love the rug but in my house having a dark solid pattern under the kitchen table would be problematic because they show everything. I would definitely check cleaning instructions because many times jute rugs are spot clean only and they can stain very easily.

How about an indoor/outdoor rug? There are some cute patterns and they are very easy to clean. These are from Ballard.

Doesn't say, Beth, but I'll take your word for it. D_gw, awesome idea!

Would you consider adding a rug with some color or do you prefer to stay with gray and black? If you want a dark rug then you might consider something easy to clean.

That table takes me back many years , my parents had an identical one that also had a drawer , I love it , keep it the way it is . Now for the rug , If you have small children I have to say no to the rug , it doesn't matter if it's sisal , jute or any other fibre , crumbs and spelles are going to happen and you will be cleaning it and vacuum it all the time., its much easier to vacuum and mop the floor without a rug. On the other hand if all adults are sitting at the table then yes to a rug

Color would be great! I just don't know what coordinates well, got any ideas?

grays, black and whites, darker blues, blue grays, grays/lilac, whites/grays,,Ikea has some cute rugs, try them.

you have the space for it, why not build a little banquette or eat in area w/benches? Lets see a pic of the entire space.

then you could trade in the little table for a big oak one and stain it like you want

even if you just did some window seats and topped w/cushions, w/the beadboard on the wall and some cute accessories, it would really change the look

I like that!! The only issue I forsee is that we have radiators, so I don't think bench seating would work. Believe me, I definitely had thought of it!
Here's a few more I found that I like. They're all polypropylene, which I think would be better than the sisal or jute for messes.

The rugs look good! I have used polypropylene rugs in my kitchen and when they get dirty, I just take them outside and hose them off.

Here's a hint when you are buying rugs online - order the smallest size of the rug you like. If you don't like the rug, the small size is much easier to return. If you are using a flash site or shopping a big sale, it's best to be safe and order the size you need.

bench seating will work if you build them as a floating style. leaves plenty of room for the rads.

I think polypropylene is a much smarter idea for now, with little kids. Those you posted are very nice.

Awesome!! Thank you all so much! I can't wait to shop now. :)
Okay, the small rugs came! Here's one vantage point.
And here's the other. I'm not quite sure I've hit the mark colorwise, but maybe I'm not thinking outside the box? In this post, I like the design of the third rug best, but wish it wasn't distressed looking and maybe a different color? What is that type of design called anyway?

i like the 3rd one too. it's a bit of an overdyed look. if you look at 'overdyed' rugs, you'll see some nice ones pop up

I have a similar table (with a darker top that has not worn well) and I love it.

I think I prefer the 3rd one as well but also like #``1 as well. It;s funny because I have been looking (for a few years- yes for real) to replace a runner and a mat by the sink. I always put blue in my search parameters and have seen each of those. (even the 2nd one was one I considered). Seeing them in your post and then in your photos in your room is helpful to me. :) ( I keep promising myself I am going to take the plunge and just get something already. I am replacing existing tired rugs so there is something there now but it needs replacement.....Like I said I like 1 and 3.

I'd either like to refinish the table top in a different color, or do floating bench seating, as Beth suggested. It's hard for me to visualize with the table the way it is, which is why I took the second set of pictures. That's probably how I truly should judge whether the rug goes with the kitchen. :)

Hubby likes the first one best, but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. More to come...
Hmmmm, looking with a fresh set of eyes this morning, I'm really liking the first one now!

Hello. This carpet certainly will approach your kitchen. But I want to say that in your kitchen enough gray shades. You should choose a carpet of different color /

    for example such color:

I like the first one too. The pattern seems to be a nice size for your kitchen. It's interesting without being overwhelming. Is your favorite style usually transitional or is this pattern a departure for you?

I wish I knew what my favorite pattern was! I'm really starting to like the first one a lot, but this is of course without a tile backsplash in place. I should probably do that first, then have the rug picked out, no?
too dark for that kitchen find something youthful , remember your appliances!!

I would go with something more fun and youthful and suited to a kitchen. An Ikat is always a good choice. Pick your tile first though.

Very nice choices. will be curious to see what you end up with- please post and let us now. This last one is very nice as well. Where are the first few you found from?

They're all from Wayfair. I really like their styles that they offer so far. My bigger issue is my backsplash!
