Got my Adenium in!

I'm between Galveston and Houston. I started yesterday putting as many of my plants as I could in my greenhouse (hope it stays put) and the Adeniums where first to go in :) I'm trying to talk DH into putting all my Plumerias in the garage, but he's still at work :( I might just have to leave many of my plants out as I have too many potted plants to put them all in. I did get many of my smaller succulents in a windowsill in my office.....hope DH doesn't spot them!

Just checking in to see how you're doing, Jerry! I have nothing to show off, otherwise---summer is too mild, I have very very late blooms just starting and probably won't make it.

Make sure your BCD is in good condition and your tanks are full!

We are getting some heavier rain and wind, but everything is much better now.

Keeping an eye on all you folks. Friend left for Galveston on wed morn to visit grand babies. He has never seen weather like you have.

We have a little farm just north of Vidor. Live in nm now. Send us some rain.

I'm 30 mins south of Houston. All is good! We barely got any winds or issues. Now we deal with tons of rain. I'm upstairs so no flooding for me.

I am 30 miles from Galveston. All my DR and some COT are in patio. Waiting for Harvey to pass us. We don't have any water, will drink rain water if we needed. No food either, 1 bag of rice....we never prepare for any weather.

You know, in your climate, you can grow Moringa. It is very nutritious and you can use it to filter water! I have seeds ... You can grow a tree in 1 season.

LatinLady, what is moringa? Never heard of it.

We bought water bottles, but never bought water because of the weather, seriously. We drank any water in Vietnam, so tap water here is good enough. Temporary of course.

About 2 years ago, I stopped by the grocery store after work, the store by my work looked like the earthquake place. I looked around and didn't know what was going on. Why the store so crowed and all the shelves were empty. I asked one of the lady, what was going on. She told me, every body were buying supplies before the storm. oh yeah, oh yeah....how stupid I was.....

So I stay away from the store before the storm comes.....

Storm is gone and my Roger RG1_16 bloomed right on schedule. She's blooming monthly! Can anyone tell me why the leaves at the apex are curled that way? A few of the plants are doing that. They don't usually do that. Too much direct sun? Maybe the sun is too intense here in July / August?

Flooding is really bad right now. Many ppl I know have lost cars or homes are flooded. I'm fortunate to be in a decent area and upstairs. More rain to come. Stay safe guys and don't drive!

I have never seen so much rain in my life!

Candice, our old house got flooded in 2001 (Allison storm). We didn't have flood insurance (big mistake). It was terrible feeling after the flood, because the smell was so bad.

It is a terrible tragedy. We are safer than anyone on the mainland. We drain to the gulf and have no rivers to flood us.

The devastation on the mainland has kept me awake most of the night. I feel their pain.

Candace, has the rain subsided in your area or are you still getting rain? I understand the storm is slow moving or even stagnant right now and is not moving out. That will certainly flood any area.

Hi Marie. I am hoping it will soon pass your area and not leave too much water damage behind. My cousin's (Houston) car got flooded and one of her trees uprooted and fell over into the neighbor's yard, crushing their fence. That's already too much damage.

We get similar torrential storms that blow in from Africa very frequently. Nothing to do but wait it out. I always worry about my adeniums after the third day of back-to-back all day rain, which we have often. Then there's hurricane season. High winds is when the adenium come inside and go into the family room and one of our bathtubs! The worse is when nearby rivers flood in ... Believe me, it can always be worse; like 2 feet of water inside the house! Thank God we don't live in low lying areas or right next to the beach.

Praying for a swift passing of Harvey.

LatinLady, it stopped raining for a bit but it's back at it. It's not nearly as strong/heavy though.

A few pics of bad, bad Harvey.....

When we were picked up by boat (had to evacuate) Sunday. The neighbors 2 story home already had water flowing through it. My home is on corner (brown house). Clear Creek (water out of banks as of Sat/Sun early morning) is just behind the neighbors house across the street.

The intersection out my front door....God Bless America!

When we got to come home....took this out my kitchen window.

And this was yesterday.....our next door neighbor's pile. Piles are even larger today and it's so hard to see all the homes and the people pulling out all their belongings to the curb!

It is so sad. My home is on 3 foot brick piers like most old homes here. We woke Tuesday to water to the top of our first step.

Those with newer homes built in the middle of the century are on the ground, and were flooded.

Jeannie and everyone affected, my heart goes out to you. I know you are living a nightmare.

Oh, Jeannie, I am so, so sorry. How devastating! I hope you have some relief from all this loss. On another note, I am so happy to hear you are well. When you measure it all, that is the most important thing. As horrid as this may seem, everything is replaceable. Praying for a quick return to normalcy and a new and improved Jeannie's Garden!

We had the same thing happen here in one of our other homes. An adjoining river had come in 4' high inside the house. Total loss.
