That is a really sweet quilt. Just adorable. I always prewash my fabric. I've had too many of them bleed in the prewash to ever stop doing it. I also prefer a less-crinkly look in my quilts. I iron them after they're washed. So I like to get any shrinkage happening before I make the quilt.

Love the ducks. I also prewash both for color & shrinkage. An added benefit is having the grain relax if it was ironed crooked at the factory.

I also always prewash, I just don't want accidents to happen after putting in so much time on a quilt. I think the quality of colorfastness is better now than it used to be but you can still have shrinkage - especially if you use all different brands and qualities of fabric, it can be uneven shrinkage. I know there are a lot of quilters who say they never prewash and never have problems - I just won't take the chance.

I always prewash. I buy fabric on sale for my stash, which I wash and iron, so it's ready to go. Don't like to wait when I'm working on a project.

BTW, what's the distaste for ironing? People post on Houzz that they got rid of their iron. I even do my tee-shirts. Reminds me, there are a dozen linen napkins in the freezer just waiting for me!

I prewash unless I'm using precuts - layer cakes, jelly rolls or charm packs. I prewash fat quarters as well.

I always pre wash and iron my fabrics, no matter what the project.

Good point, Vasutx. A quilting friend of mine washed an entire jelly roll, leaving her with nothing but shreds!

I prewash fabrics and wash again when it's finished and I still get that wonderful crinkly shrinkage because the batting shrinks a bit. Cute duck quilt!

The worst bleeding I ever had was from some LQS quality navy blue fabric, it bled purple!

I never prewash and never had colors run on me. I can' t think of anything worse than ironing yardage that has ravelly edges from prewashing. After a quilt is completed I do wash my quilts because I love the crinkly look.

Cute quilts! I pre wash yardage, but do not pre wash pre-cuts. I've noticed that using the better know brands vs. those fabrics not identified with a particular manufacturer are subject to bleed. Learned my lesson and I'm stuck on only buying from those manufacturers I trust.

I alwyas wash after quilting...love the crinkly look as well!

Love the ducks, such a happy quilt. Another pre-washer here (except for pre-cuts), but I do it because the chemicals bother my hands.
