If you like the color block paint job, the colors should be chosen to compliment each other rather than clash. Then the furniture should be kept neutral with accessories picking up on some of the paint colors. Or you can incorporate a piece of furniture as part of the color blocking.

Thank you Decoenthsiaste. Thing is the previous owners had the job done. And even though I am not exactly a fan, I simply can't afford a new paint job :( So I'm just thinking of getting a set of furniture that kinda makes the paint job not be an eyesore. I was thinking of getting black or brown pieces of furniture but I'm afraid it will make the already small living room look much smaller. what are your thoughts?

I'd keep the couch (love the color) and repaint the room. You have a LOT of colors going on. I'm a big fan of greys. I think your room is too small for a sectional. Separate furniture pieces will provide better options for a layout. You mentioned that you cannot afford a new paint job but are thinking about getting new furniture?! Painting is much less expensive than a new living room set! Also, taking down the half wall would really open things up!

Thanks Angela. Sorry if my pics were not clear enough to make out the colors of the walls. Attaching a pic so that you can see all the colors (including the carpet). We're considering taking down the half wall. But wasn't sure if that would be a good idea. Glad you think so. The couch in the picture is very very old and actually needs to go. so, you think we should get something in that same color? What about something similar to the color of the carpet? Or black/white?

@Angela, my parents are buying the furniture :) they insisted on it as the only couch we have is not very comfortable to sit on...

I suggest you pick the color you like most on the walls for your sofa color.

I’m going with orange:

Then all white…drapes with orange Greek Key Trim, for instance.

The rest pf the furniture, do white as well (slipcovers) and orange throw pillows.

Then, as time allows, start painting the other walls white and leave the orange.

It's 30% off at Sherwin Williams, it doesn't look like your ceilings are too high to make it a job you can't do, and a neutral will make it so much easier to decorate...

@Judy I was thinking of either a very light khaki or cream or black. Do you think any of these would work ? I mean, does black make the room appear smaller ? Does khaki/cream make the wall look weird? Thanks in advance

Buy basic color neutral furniture, sofa at least. It is the most expensive thing to replace. Black or overstuffed would be a bad choice in this space. The scale of the side you have is actually not bad.
If you don't like the one colored wall, it could be easily repainted to match the rest of the walls especially since you have the color chips.
Where does the TV go? That will dictate a lot about the room.

If M&D are footing the bill, then definitely buy new furniture :) I agree with Casandra - neutral colors! Gray, cream, tan, etc. I would not buy black furniture unless you really love it. I have dark brown leather furniture and I'm regretting it. It's just really dark and heavy. My favorite paint color is SW Collonade Gray.

Cassandra, we are leaning towards neutrals too :) I had your exact same concerns about black. We have no TV. Not planning to get one too. The attached pic shows the opposite (to the Orange wall) wall. We're thinking of getting a bookshelf to fit the entertainment center slot.

Penny, with so many of you recommending a paint job, I'm seriously considering it. How I'm going to convince my husband is the million dollar question! Maybe I'll just show him this thread :D

Well, I have found that if I start a job, it will get finished.

Slap some paint samples on that wall (when DH isn't around) and the decision is removed from you and your husband. :)

Yes, you can go with a more neutral color, but if you keep the paint as is, the khaki should lean more putty//green undertone, which can be a great color to work with, when you decide to paint.

A thousand "thumbs up" for Kendrah's comment -- do NOT buy furniture to work with a paint color you don't even seem to like! I, too, was confused about lacking funds for painting while planning to buy furniture, but I *totally* get the gift-from-parents business. Yay for generous parents. The sofa that JudyG linked is beautiful! After getting some furniture in place, Dhanya, PLEASE consider painting (all) your walls a lovely color that you and your hubby love. It'll make a whole new space! And after painting, we can reconfigure some of your art placement...

I love Judy's furniture recommendation and Kendrah's comment that puts everything into perspective!! So, as of now, I'm gonna go with the most neutral furniture pieces and convince my darling man to get a new paint job done. Will keep you lovely people posted. :) Thanks a ton!

If the wall color is acceptable, I might suggest a new rug to tie things together. Oh, and lower that art above the sofa.

Sorry Dhanya, I am not a rug expert. But I will recommend an art piece about 2/3rds width of the sofa. Or perhaps a gallery wall, although personally I would prefer one large piece. View images on Houzz to gain perspective and proportion.

Personally I don't care for the orange color accent wall. The gold wall color goes well with the rug and your new furniture. I'd repaint the orange wall in a very similar color to the rug.
