@Erika Kuntz, I have drip irrigation installed, but don't really use it. I water mostly by hand because I have more control over the amount of water each plant receives. For an agave and cacti, you would not necessarily have to have irrigation set up. Depending on where you live, you may only need to water them for the first few weeks of being planted, then forget about them. Other succulents may need more water though, again depending on where you live.

@Vstavay, your yard looks so clean! You must live in a place with a cool climate and plenty of water - those Japanese maples look very lush.

@Erika, that'a great space you have there. Is that palm a butia? It kind of looks like parajubaea but maybe my eyes are deceiving me. What irrigation do you have in place already?

Most of the plants in the photo would survive with no irrigation in place, but they would look best with some water. The cacti and yucca can look great on rainfall alone, the rest of the 'soft' succulents would need some water to look plump in summertime like they do there. This picture was probably taken in winter, as aloe striata typically blooms in later winter and leucadendrons like the one in the photo color up with cooler temperatures also.
