Congrats, they look good. You will see and feel that one end of the seed is fatter. That is where the seed is and most of us I think if we were growing them in pots indoors would break off the flat end. It is just there for natural dispersal.

However having said that you can simply scatter the seed in your garden, as is. It is exciting!

Ken most (all?) of those look streaked in the first pic - is that after a culling? Or do they resolve and then you cull them later?

Never tried keeping seeds, but I would love to if I ever have space for it. But I heard that most seedlings are plain green...how did you get so many streaked?

i bought a lot of streaked mother plants ...

the tray ... pre-cull .. note name tags on edge ...also note differing leaf shapes.. even when it only has 3 or 4 leaves ...

by cup time... all streaked.. maybe a blue or a yellow or two ... note names on cups ... and yes.. some of them go all green at this stage ... keep whittling them down ...

Thank you all. Sorry for not responding sooner - didn't have a chance to sit down at the computer. Does anyone reading this want some Maui Buttercup seeds? There are so many fat seed pods, and I don't have much more room for anything. I really like hosta, but my garden is filling up. And my lawn, with the barrels and pots. DH has asked that I leave a little bit of his lawn uncovered. I'm considering it, lol!

LOL! I almost missed that, Ken! This forum has done that well in my case. I think I first started asking hosta questions here about 3 years ago, as "the dogs landlady." When Houzz took over, I took the opportunity to change that, since I don't have dogs anymore. I now have 17, (hostas, not dogs) on a lot that's about 50' x 150', with a very large two family house in the middle.
