I would suggest painting the garage door the color of the base of the house so it doesn't appear so prominent. I would also paint the tops of the windows the same color. I would plant a pretty ornamental tree such as a Japanese maple, dogwood, redbud etc in the middle of the lawn. Under it And around in clumps in the yard I would plant bulbs such as iris, daylilly, daffodils. I would put a pretty black trellis under the small window and grow flowering vines up it. I would also screen the neighbors with rosé of Sharon or knockout roses. Line the driveway with a small ornamental grass such as lirope or hostas. Add some color with gazing balls, pots, or birdbath.

Thanks. The red wood around the windows is actually rotting out, it's being replaced and most likely going to be finished with some
Vinyl, but it will not be red.

To make entrance more attractive and unified have a carpenter build a wood pergola with brick or stone columns holding it up and plant a blooming vine on it. Here's an example of one : Paint garage door and trim a medium brown/tan ( I couldn't duplicate the color on my drawing program ) . Here's a sketch of my ideas.

If you're gutting the entire house, is there any way you can just move the garage over a couple of feet to the left. (I know it's a crazy suggestion.) Right now it is so prominent, you cannot see the front door. Add to that that you are widening the driveway and you will have very little left for landscaping.

On the other hand you could extend your front entrance out, like Sweet Caroline Design suggested so that it extends beyond the garage. It's a shame builders make the car housing so much more prominent than the people housing in a home.
