    Is there a TV?

I think the furniture is too far apart. And there's no place to put your drink.

Pull each piece a foot closer into the center of the room. Put an end table between the sofa and loveseat with a lamp. Find a coffee table.

Find pillows in a color similar to the chair and put those on the sofa and loveseat.

What do you like best and least about the room? Do you have any inspiration photos of rooms you love?

It is hard to tell but the pillows on couches are fabric of chair, Let me move some furniture around and post again. I honestly like the couch and have had for awhile but just can't make this room pull together correctly.

I wouldn't move the sofa and loveseat away from the walls because the room is not large. I would add small end tables to hold lamps, books, a drink and a small plate, plus a small coffee table or ottoman. The corner display unit might work better in a different corner and moving it would allow you to add a square corner table which could serve both the sofa and loveseat.

At least you're starting with a nearly blank slate!

I would start by purchasing a few things to make the room feel more cohesive. I would purchase:

    • Another arm chair, similar in size to the pale green chair
    • Small round table for between the two arm chairs
    • Update lampshades with drum shades
    • Crown molding would also look nice in this room
    • Large low-pile rug to help anchor the furniture
    • For a coffee table either get a wooden table or a large tufted square ottoman
    • Add height with floor lamp (with drum shade to match other lamps)
    • Add texture to the room with baskets, indoor plants, throw blankets
    • Two large pieces of artwork for above couches or a series of art in a "gallery wall" above one couch.
    • Additional side table for end of couch (not necessarily to "match" the existing dark wood end tables but introduce a new shape or finish with similar scale)

Here's some inspiration to help get you there:

This furniture style reminded me of yours. Look how they kept lamps the same but added in tables with different finish and shape. Also, notice the differing arm chair fabrics with similar chair scale...

Please give us a view of the room from the opposite direction.

The couch should probably be centered on whatever is opposite it. Then loveseat and chair should be pulled closer to form a U-shape.

Yes, we're seeing 21/2 walls - need to see the entire space and all walls.

I would arrange the furniture like this...

Here's a start. I pulled your seating closer, got you a taller lamp, and a coffee table. I haven't worked on the wall decor yet, but I didn't forget the dog.

What it really needs is some artwork to liven it up. I thought of groveraxle's Canary and the same artist's Fancy Bird. Maybe something more formal than those two?

Because your sofas are busy, I tried to keep the art pretty simple. There's a bit of rusty. red in the botanical prints so I pulled some of that into the room. In any case, you need pillows that don't blend into the sofas.

I like Grovers last arrangement (even his dog) but wanted to add that I think the dark green drapes should be lighter.

So my husband put shelf back on wall but I like the botanical picture mix! I also like the gold frames idea . I will keep eye out for cute coffee table to add a lighter mix from my dark side tables. I moved the tall shelf out completely and moved corner hutch across room. Looks much better with furniture arrangement

I will pick up beige drum shades as well

Angle the chair toward the corner as if the person in it is conversing with people on both the sofa and loveseat. I'd look for a round coffee table and pull the arrange it so the chair can reach it too.

The art behind the chair is hung too high. It needs to come down at least a foot. And when you decide to replace the curtains, get longer ones and hang them ceiling to floor.

Replace the clock with art that covers 2/3 - 3/4 the width of the sofa. Then your room will be perfect.

Could you switch the hanging quilt with the tree/photo arrangement? The whole length of the quilt would show that way. Maybe bring the clock down 8 inches and keep the tree/photo lower than it currently is by a bit too.

Can you reinvent the tapestry as a throw or cushion it's not working on the wall or just change the hanging rod, you said you like gold maybe a simple gold rod instead of present one. The corner unit would look better if it was painted maybe in burnt orange to match the wall hanging or soft white. It's colour is not working there, maybe other people have better idea.

Ps . Change lamp shades for larger drum shape in light colour.

Would you like more of door/wreath color [not sure what exactly is] - with one 'busy' pillow?

    New purchases...to be continued .

New coffee table, art above main couch and rearranged some other existing picture frames. Pillows and throw with oranges new. Still need new lamps/shades. Found this blue little stand of my great grandmothers just not sure if and where to incorporate
  • 9 years ago

The look is nice, and the blue seems soft enough to blend... what if the main seating area had one less dark table -- and it was placed in another spot?

Is the dark picture frames on wall too dark ? I am ok with getting new side tables and would like suggestions on style. Some earlier suggested round styles. Think a tall floor lamp in back corner ? That corner feels empty
  • 9 years ago

For corners, I sort of like a dark item [as a comfortable anchor?]... and it repeats dark frames... which could have an item, unique or not [shaped like a long key] to the left maybe....

Then nearer to center of area, try the blue --photo for us to see? unless you don't like... how much taller is it than sofa arm, and than coffee table idk?

Hang art 5" above seating pieces. I think you should make more of your stairwell photos and add the family tree group to them. Coffee table should be no more than 18" away from seating to be useful. A floor lamp by the chair for a reading spot would be good. Perhaps your grandmother's blue table would do well in the foyer, bringing the quilt rack in behind the chair. I suggest you replace the drapes with longer ones to hang as below.

Pull the chair in a bit closer to the sofas, then try Grandma's demilune console on the wall behind the chair. A floor lamp or table lamp in the corner would be good, and agree that raising the drapes would make a world of difference in this room.

I like the art and the new color palette you've established.

It's garden fresh and I like those looks... but, as was said, with palette going strong already imo I would remove gold sunflowers [you have warms enough].

Do you all think gold picture frames or art still would do best above smaller couch?
    Thank you all.
