Cheer and Black Poly

As I've mentioned before hubs is retired for the past 6 years but took a job right afterwards at a well known auto parts store, his manditory work shirts must be ordered from the company, must pay out of pocket and there not cheap, anywho...they now have new ones black, 100% poly...I figure poly is generally colorfast but still I need to avoid OB's and the dusty apperance it leaves and yet I need something with enough enzymes to remove the oil/grease they will collect..I'm thinking Cheer Powder since its OB free and now sports 3 enzymes...problem is Cheer can be sudsy. I mentioned this to my son a few days ago and ask if he wanted to go halves on a box...he showed up today with two boxes one for him one for me.LOL.. I did a load of the black shirts and Hmmm yes it was sudsy but everytime the wash action paused I could see the suds collapsing quickly. Second and third rinse was clear. Shirts were spotless and smelled very fresh.

Box is labeled *for both* Greeny do you think when P&G added more enzymes to the Cheer they fixed the suds problem?

I love the soft, clean scent of Cheer powder (and liquid)...but I am toooooo nervous to try again. Every single time I have tried to use Cheer....I end up doing like 10+ rinses and still have actual foam!!!

I have used powdered Cheer for probably a decade in my Miele on all colored loads. I rarely have sudsing issues unless I overdose. I use 2 TBS for a normal sized load of normal soils. Up to 3 TBS if it is a full drum and dirty stuff.

Joel, good to know about the dosing on the Miele.

I love Cheer powder but it is sudsier than most. I find that Tide PurClean is more controlled and cleans quite well. Since it is a liquid I would imagine that it is better on oils. A full load with PurClean on Line 1, and 1T of STPP rinses quite well.

Picked up some Cheer Powder this week and just tried it out, spiked with STPP...ZERO suds issues!! Smells great too, as does the liquid. I think I may have found a new regular to use for colors. No OB's =)

I noticed that the box has a 2017 copyright date on it. Did something change? I've always heard all of the suds nightmare stories.

I looked for this post and couldn't find it....

Ya I've used it a bunch of times now...Mikes poly work shirts suds...but loads of colors are not sudsing even with 5T. Yep you read it right 5...lol.

Jase its very obvious Cheer is a new and improved detergent. ..and I think it wad Greeny that said it now has 3 enzymes. ..I'm surprised P$ G improved the Cheer.

Larsi, you need to give Cheer powder a 10th chance! ;)

I just gave Cheer a real test. White bath towels with Cheer...a very light layer of suds when the lift and fall paused..158F temp and I used 3 heaping T. The Cheer was for sure reformulated. I had suds with the old stuff even in my TL. First rinse was a few suds second and third was crystal clear. I am so glad this detergent was changed...low suds, 3 eenzymes, and it kept its great scent. Whoever buys it check the date on the back you don't want 2016...and since its not a huge mover off the shelf I'd check the back box ..however you better check the date on the front box also as stockers may not rotate like they should.

So I also bought some Cheer liquid when I bought the powder. I had stopped using the liquid when I bought a new HE washer as suds were a problem. This liquid has a new 2017 copyright just like the powder did. I know that doesn't necessarily mean the contents have changed, but I'm having ZERO suds issues with it! This Cheer liquid is acting just like the HE Turbo formulas, even if spiked with STPP. The scent of powder or liquid Cheer beats the pants off anything Tide is putting out.

Could P&G actually be showing some love for the Cheer brand? It looks like it to me! <3

can't wait to try these. Got to get rid of my older powdered Cheer.

Today I washed a full size Batman fleece throw....these things whip up the suds...I used Cheer...exactly as Jase thinks...HE TURBO for sure.

This new Cheer has me very excited. It removed oil stains from hubs black poly work shirts...so I know it has the umph, low sudsing, no OB's and smells great...it really has it all. Anyone that likes the old fashioned scent of detergent you need look no farther than the new black box.

It is exciting Mama! I believe that both Cheer powder and liquid have been reformulated as HE Turbo.

    Dirt goes. Color stays.

Great. I go buy several big boxes of Cheer a couple of years ago for hubs black work clothes, hubs retires, and now I'm left with very old boxes of Cheer for the remainder of our darks. Now you say Cheer is reformulated? How lucky can my humane society be?

So if I were to use the new Cheer powder on towels and sheets I'd just add 2 (top loader water hog) Tide Whites Rescue pods? Huh, Mama, huh?

Pat...well...you could...personally I don't like adding a booster pod to powder detergent as that's a whole lotta carbonate not to mention the PH will be very high which can cause the dry, scratchy, stiff clothes we hear about sometimes. Why don't you stick to the Tide with Bleach powder for whites and lights and if you want Cheer for everything else? I'm using Cheer for most things except white stuff..its doing a great job even on kids play clothes and removes grease from hubs black poly shirts...any detergent that can remove grease from synthetics is a keeper in my book.....

    Thoughts?

Pat, Cheer could be used for all your laundry, not just darks.

I have been using liquid Cheer for Darks on my blacks and jeans for about 3 months now, and couldn't be happier. It is the only liquid in my arsenal, save for some unscented Woolite for the kitty beds.

I am absolutely loving this reformulated Cheer powder and liquid!! At this point I could be happy with having just Cheer Powder, Cheer Liquid, and Tide w/Bleach Powder in my arsenal.

Greeny...Cheer can be used for all laundry, but why use it on whites when its not formulated for whites and a booster with it could cause too much residue.

    Ya Jase..me too.

And of course the powder being OB free is a huge bonus. I'm hoping it will fix the dusty appearance dark colored sweat pants get.

Mama, I was suggesting it since Pat had several boxes. I can tell she really wants to get her hands on the new formulation but wants to get through what she has already first. Or she's make her Humane Society very happy! :)

Glad you are liking it too Mama! How about that fabulous scent? L<3VE!!!

Years ago, I tried Cheer darks liquid. It didn't remove odors. I am tempted to try Cheer again based on what I'm reading here. I like the Woolite darks, but it's just so expensive! I don't like the scent of Mas darks and it's not HE marked on the bottles I've seen in TX. I love wearing black, and really want to prevent fading, but I need the clothes to smell clean, too. My daughter in college is using 7th generation sensitive that says it doesn't have OBAs, but she tells me she washes everything in hot since she's using communal machines so any fading may be from water temp. --Yes, she's a germaphobe.

Cheer POWDER is the only Cheer product that doesn't have OB's.

Cheer powder is a very good detergent. ..removes stains (oily) from hubs poly work shirts...poly can be hard to clean considering it is water resistant. Its also lightly scented no heavy perfumes..just light and old fashioned scented. Another plus is the price its about 11 to 12 dollars for a 80 load box. Thats a good price for a good detergent.

On top of not having OB's it also has a chlorine neutralizer in it which helps prevent chlorine in tap water from fading darks.

    Win win

thanks for the great insight @mamapinky. Is an equivalent alternative comparable to cheer powder?

I use and like cheer powder. Love the scent. almost the only scent I can tolerate these days.

Funny how previous posts complain about sudsing. I have no sudsing problem at all and I often use more than 2 TBsp in my Bosch.. My water is about average , not super soft or hard.

Grapeleaves, I could use Cheer powder in my top loader but in my front loader even a spoonful caused tons of suds...but than Cheer was reformulated and I have no suds problem at all woth the new formulation.

The new formulation must be what I've used.. I have to be more careful with overdosing with Tide than Cheer.
