Help, my avocados are dying..

Can anyone tell me what they think is wrong with my avocados? I have two, and they both seem to be suffering from something different. I thought that the problem was too much salt in the water which was causing leaf burn in one and curling in the other, but I've reported them a week and a half ago and have been giving them different water for a few weeks now, but they are getting worse... all of the leaves are curled on one plant, while the other doesn't have many leaves left and has brown patches but with tiny brown spots on most of the leaves. This seems to progress from the bottom upwards...
