I think you need a more linear piece of artwork, or mirror.(and some lighting)

I would suggest getting a long landscape mirror that goes almost the entire length of the mantle 8" all the way around of wall space , the frame should not be any wider than the one you already have. . Hang the mirror on the wall and then layer and lean some colorful artwork on the mantle in front of the mirror - It could be 3 pieces about the size of your exsisting mirror. This will add the much needed depth to the room . And consider placing 2 large tall urns on either side of the hearth. Lighting is much needed too! Hope this helps!

Yes, I'm not sure why my phone is taking such weird pictures with the flash today. It does make the lighting look wonky. Or were you talking lamps? Thanks for your suggestion with the long mirror. Where to find those?? Lowes? Home Depot?????

Look for a nice door mirror? Home Goods, Marshalls?

( place sideways) assorted candlesticks but of the same material? All glass or all wood? Can you tile the mantle to give it some importance?
