Hello- Trying to find a solution that works. i'm a composer/pianist/teacher...I want this garage conversion to look professional and branded, but difficult as i've never done anything like this. It is a place to have clients overI have spent so much $$ and time on paint samples i doubt i can afford a designer- the paint guy at home depot just laughs when he sees me. The accent wall is left over from an idea to paint all walls gray and beams orange....I backed out... I'm thinking it would make sense to make the beams disappear by painting them white (in terrible shape). Also, the accent wall kind of clashes, so i'm thinking about losing that. I'm toying with the idea of painting everything "borrowed light" by farrow and ball or something from this page: https://www.remodelista.com/posts/10-happiness-inducing-paint-colors/ there will also be track lights for which i need a color, guitars (mostly orangeish) hung on walls, area rugs i need to buy, and sound panels all over (still need color and material) There's an issue with bubbling on the door gel stain, so maybe i'll have an opportunity to repaint that. any designers that know how to put this all together? i'm in los angeles.

behr paints- walls- white 51

ceiling- ultra pure white

accent wall- liquid mercury

floorboards- swirling water (violet undertone)

floor- concrete painted with studio taupe.

door- vintage burgundy (old masters gel stain) beams- infinite deep sea

Many have BTDT. It's not uncommon for people to go to different paint store locations because they're embarrassed by how many samples they're purchasing. Funny/not funny.

Beams Ultra Pure White to match the ceiling.

Track lighting and other details and fixtures in black. And you should have those installed first asap because that light source is going to contribute significantly to defining every single color choice you make for that space.

like those ideas- that's really what i mean to ask and the rest is too much information- also considering wood paneling on ceiling.

The beams are quite an eye full - even painted out in white. Adding paneling is not necessary.

good observation. i don't understand the black tracks though...i would figure make the whole upper structure disappear with white tracks. are you trying to pull black from the piano and computer equipment? there will also be two big sound panels of some color (learning towards khaki) suspended from the ceiling.

Assuming it would be a cool looking track fixture, kind of like a punctuation marks for the beams that would also help define the different zones you have laid out. Could absolutely go white and keep it simple.

If you kept the envelope of the room simple in black and white then you could do a fun color(s) for the panels. Maybe pull those fun colors from the rugs for cohesiveness.

I want it to be as soothing a space as possible.... would even mind if everything were a light blue/gray and then the orange guitars stand out as complementary accent.

Envelope- assuming you mean the skeleton/groundwork?

Envelope meaning the color of the floor, walls, ceiling and trim. That makes up the color envelope of the room in to which you put the contents. Contents being rugs, furniture, accessories, art -- all your stuff.

If you keep it neutral and cohesive, then you have a flexible envelope. That way the space can evolve over time as you add and/or change the contents. With this strategy you don't need a bold accent wall or to boldly accent mediocre architectural elements like the ceiling beams. Mediocre not in a bad way, but they're just beams kinda way.

Because the more bells and whistles you add to the envelope, the less your special contents will stand out. If everything is special, than nothing is. Keep the envelope simple so your stuff like the guitars have some room to shine.

needs another coat but there ya go. brown or mushroom would work too i think.
