Carb Cleaner

I have an LT155 John Deere. I have been doing my own periodic service, since I inherited it about 15 years ago.

Recently I had starting problems and since the drive belt need replacement I took the tractor to the JD dealer. They said the carb needed cleaning, and some other things.

Question: Should I have been putting a squirt of carb clean in the carb when I did the yearly service. If so, the type used by carb cleaner used on your car?

No. There isn't really much going on in that carb that spray or other carb cleaner is going to solve. If one wanted to use a simple cleaner like Seafoam with the fuel for a maintenance item that might have a benefit as it would also stabilize the fuel. You could remove the bowl once a year to clean debris should they find that was a problem. In fact you can use the 2405013s filter should you feel you need something better.
