I would say that it's better to be safe than sorry! Don't cut

I replaced my countertops last fall. The new faucet I purchased came with a soap dispenser. I opted not to include the soap dispenser, the installer told me he could come back and put iniin if I changed my mind. The thought of reaching under the sink to refill a soap dispenser was not appealing to me. I prefer an attractive dispenser near the sink.

I agree that it may look more streamlined for resale not to have the soap dispenser, especially if you aren't convinced by the quality of the one you are considering. But I'd be surprised if very many soap dispensers require getting under the sink to refill. Ours fills from the top once you take out the dispenser pump, and I think this is pretty standard. Personally, I like having the built in soap dispenser, but not if it isn't a good quality or attractive one.

I had a soap dispenser and it broke pretty quickly. Never again.

My motto: Match quality with quality to achieve a uniform level of quality within your interiors. If you have a high quality faucet on your sink / countertops that has an optional quality soap dispenser then I would install it as it will present a cohesive quality finish & presentation when you are going to sell it to the public. Buyer may always choose to not use the soap dispenser, but you should just have it built in as a convenience & cohesive appearance for people as they walk through the kitchen rather than a basic plastic soap bottle next to the sink. DO IT!

Can you find something with a look and quality you are happy with? Mine fills from the top and I prefer having something built in rather than something else on the counter. It came with the faucet.

Mine also fills from the top, and I love having it there.

I just had one put in and I love not having a bottle on the sink for hand soap. Mine matches my facet and fills from the top. It is a very attractive look and I always know where it is!

I just had a countertop replaced and wanted as few holes drilled as possible - one this time, four last time. I'd suggest living w/o it and adding later if you feel you must have an additional hole drilled.

I am having granite installed tomorrow-Opted not to have soap dispenser even though it came with faucet. Want as few holes as possible and like to use decorative soap dispensers. But, if I installed the soap dispenser, I'd use it for hand lotion.

The thing about an extra hole is you can use it for more than soap. We used ours for an instant hot water dispenser which my wife loves!

I would save the money. I have been designing custom homes for nearly 25 years and have never been asked to include a soap dispenser in a bath or kitchen.

When I remodeled my kitchen 20 years ago, I got talked into a soap dispenser. I hated it--it seemed to always get gunky--and I ended up never using it. When I replaced my faucet a few months ago, I replaced it with a sprayer. I'm much happier now. One person's opinion.

Our soap dispenser is not something I would want to live without! I use dish soap for washing my hands as well as dishes. It's a top load. I suspect that most have the same size hole drilled. You can ask the granite man or make a quick call to your plumbing supplier to find out what size hole needs to be drilled and order the dispenser. Meanwhile, the hole will be there, awaiting your new toy. I'd go for it!

can't stand those dispensers....

They're great when they work. Mine did for about 6 months and then the pumping action stopped working. Now it sits as a relic.

Make sure you have plenty of 'backup' dispensers if you decide to cut the hole.

I think the controversy is also over how many holes shoud be drilled in countertops :)

With a single hole faucet, plus a soap dispenser, 2 will suffice.

Besides having to get way up in your sink, I've had several and they never seem to work. So I would say no

I would say no . I had one in my old house and I didn't like it , just bought a new house and I didn't get one . I like the way the soap Smells out of the original container it came in .

Also a pain to get under the cabinet to clean the dispenser. The soap Smells funny in it!

I'm thinking of getting one that covers the air gap on my dishwasher...

I have a soap dispenser and love it. Fills from the top and easy to load. I've had one for 20 years and wouldn't have a kitchen without it.

I realize this is an OLD post, but it came up in a search, so here is my opinion....

We installed a new commercial goose-neck Kohler stainless steel faucet over a year ago and absolutely love it! It came with a separate dispenser, and we had the hole already there so installed it. I was skeptical at first, but it has always worked smoothly, fills from the top (only complaint is I often overfill it... operator error!), and I use it for dish soap, as I HATE having a bunch of bottles (especially if they aren't decorative)/stuff (sponges, etc.) on the counter/around/on the sink. I like the clean, uncluttered look of having an installed matching dispenser and want the same faucet/dispenser in our new home we are currently building.
