Yes, I have a suggestion! When it comes to chandelier sizing over your table, the width is what you need to focus on--take the table's width in inches, subtract 12 and that gives you the maximum size for the width of a light to go over it. (That advice comes from our popularguide to light sizing.)

Since you have a long table, you have two options for lighting it:

1. You can look for a linear light, sometimes also called an island light. They tend to have a long, slim look that make them perfect for use over islands and long tables. Mount it centrally over the table.

2. You can use two chandeliers or large pendants to light the table. If you go this route, instead of following the guidelines I said above, look for lights that are 1/3 of the width of the table. Then center each of the chandeliers over one half of the table.

The chandelier length should be approximately 1/3 of the table size.

We need some LINEAR light LENGTH recommendations. If a table is 60 inches long and one plans to hang a LINEAR susupension light, what is the MAXIMUM length one should consider?

I want to hang a liner chandelier over dinning table that is 98 long and 44 1/2 wide. How long and wide should the light be? Help

I have also gone with anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 the length of the table (depending on the scale of the fixture) and no more than 1/3 of the width. A lot depends on the fixture you choose and the look.

Lights Online, thanks for focusing on the width of the table instead of the length. You made me realize that a long light for a long table would look really stupid when I remove the center leaf to shorten the table. Not a problem if I use the width as my guide!

I have an 8 ft farmhouse table and I bought this linear light but I think it’s too small. Overall height 23.8 fixture height 20.2 it states width is 36 inches. In my mind that’s 36 inches long . Is that big enough?

I would agree that a 36” length linear fixture is too short for a 8 foot table.

I have a 103 inch table non leaf 38 inches wide would a 50 inch long linear work

I have a table that's 43" wide by 64" long in a room that's 12'4" x 12'6". My chandelier is 22" diameter, about half the table size, and nobody ever hit their head on it. By the 1/3 table width rule, it should be only 14" wide. I think that would look too small. We use our table for projects and games as well as dining with company. I need lots of light from above, and this one doesn't provide enough.
