I didn`t see the before pics. I would remove the mirror and put your artificial tree in that corner. Regarding the cabinet, could you cut out pieces of cardboard or styro foam, cover or paint a light color and then use double sided tape to place on the back to lighten up the cabinet. Try the artificial plant behind the sofa, on top of the cabinet at one end.

Is this your front door? I'd really prefer the sofa facing it to be more welcoming. Place it on the 3rd tile out from your cabinet. The chair and table will stay on the same corner of the rug but everything will slide closer to the windows on the chair's left side. This pic looks like you're wasting lots of circulation floor space by having the sofa and table blocking it off from the rest of the room. Try that table and lamp between these doors and the window on the left. You may want to lower the art to 5" above the table. Move the art left and set the lamp right so you can still get to the light switch.

Thanks Angel, Instead of moving mirror I may just put my tree in the corner & let mirror reflect it, by the way, it's a real tree, hard to tell by pic I'm sure... plus I am going to try lighten up cabinet. Decoenthusiaste, I may try sofa in front of cabinet again, but after I posted a pic of it last time, it wasn't well recieved, as it looked bulky& felt like it was in center of room, last time I centered the sofa with cabinet because of chandy, but i'm considering taking down chandy, & i could move sofa down a bit.We'll see. How about a teal-green color taken from your rug and picture.

A more delicate sofa table in gold and glass would've been meeting the beautiful delicate lines of your sofa.

The two pictures going up the stairs look awkward.

The screen you have behind the door should be moved to a corner where you can open it and use it; a bedroom? Or dining room?

I'd lighten the drapes and hang more outside the windows, it's covering too much window. Id get rid of the screen, it serves no purpose and looks cluttered.
Id remove the plant from the sofa table, it's too big there. I'd get a rug for the front door that comes all the way behind the sofa, something neutral.

Also I would take those large pictures off the stairway wall, totally wrong proportions and get rid of the old lampshades and get plainer, brighter light ones or new lamps.

I went back and looked at all your pix - the multiple threads confused me and I missed a whole series of photos. However, I do like the table beside the door, under the art (just lower the art a bit and move the lamp to the right to hide the switch plate.) I like the huge art lowered below the door frames and I think once you find a bench to go under it you'll have a nice vignette there. It is too bad the wall with the big cabinet is not centered with the windows and the French door interferes with centering the sofa at the end opposite the entry. So, I think floating the seating is your best bet. I agree with one of the other commenters who suggested that you can improve the draperies by extending the rod so they hang just kissing the outside window frames. Consider moving all panels to the outside; you can still close them for privacy but the center panels are blocking things up a bit. This will also decrease the size of some walls and require a the art pieces to be rethought. And do remove the big art from the stairwell. I hadn't really noticed that photo until today. One arrangement I didn't see you try would be to angle the sofa with its back to the entry door, using the table behind it. This will still create a foyer for you but it won't be so wide feeling. I think you may be losing as much as 100 square feet of space when the sofa floats perpendicular to the entry doors. If you are really a risk taker and ready to try something out of the box, you could float the big cabinet perpendicular to the door. The front of it would face into the room and the back of it could be fabric covered. Then your table could back up to it and you could take the lamp cord (with an extension) behind the fabric and around to the wall outlet. I used to do vignettes for an antique store and we often floated big pieces, covering the back of them will fabric or panels that were wall papered or fabric covered, to form a sort of "room." That would get the big issue of the off centered cabinet out of your hair while creating a foyer and opening up that whole wall for your sofa, etc.

I think your rug is too small....

I had to go back and read your earlier post too:) love that beautiful artwork by the front door btw! get rid of chandelier if you haven't already. I actually loved your sofa where it originally was on the far wall! I would have kept it there and just floated two chairs with a small round table where you have the sofa now. are you happy with current furniture arrangement? does it function well for you? what is this room's purpose? reading, visiting, playing games/hobbies. I see no tv. whatever the purpose is for the room, that might help guide you on what pieces to fill your beautiful cabinet with. beautiful space!

Ok, do not get rid of the chandelier and do not put the large massive piece in the middle of the room .

This is easy...
get rid of the dark curtains , change to a neutral color and place outside the window, don't cover the window
Get rid of the screen
Try a larger rug
Take the pictures off the wall where the stairs are
Get new lamps or replace old shades with brighter ones in a more contemporary style
Find a smaller plant for the table behind the sofa
De clutter the other table under the window.

The lamp on the sofa table doesn't work. The cord is a no-go unless you have an outlet in the floor.

I'm sending new pics,far from done, moved the large pic down, looks so much better....looking at rugs, was hoping groveraxle could put options in my room, he does that so well, I tried, didn't work out! lol...Took pics off stairwell, I never really liked them there, friends did so I left them but every time I looked at them i felt it was odd.Moved big plant.Got rid of screen, thinking of using it for a headboard, we'll see...I 've always liked my drapes, but I'll think about lighter ones &hanging them outside of windows, but these windows look so bare.I've sent pics of them.I liked the lighter weight sofa table & use the other one somewhere else.Don't care for the black against off white. I want to paint my walls, any ideas. This room is just for visiting & maybe reading. I don't want too contemporary,I like the New Orleans look, couple of antiques, mirror, glass, plants &books etc.My house is not like those,no high ceilings or ornate carvings, but I do love that style. Maybe I'm trying to get something that isn't going to work in this home, trying to make it something it is not. I don't want it to look formal, just interesting & unique if you know what I mean...The reason I was taking down chandy, is as you'll see in pics is that with the room this way it can't center over table, & a taller person aiming for sofa will bump his head, lol. changed lampshades in 2 pics. Coffee table is too close to sofa, was trying to make chandy look centered, but can't. Windows looked so bare, that's why I put tree in one. What do yall suggest to help windows not look so bare? They're old , I'm painting them soon, but in winter 'i think they'll look bad & very cold feeling. Thanks to all my fellow houzzers! Backbayfishing, I've been following your other thread and just found this one. I have to say, you certainly are willing to take all suggestions into account and to try everything. Your room as is looks so lovely now! The lamps, even if you don't ever turn them on, are great on the sofa table. A pretty bowl between them would finish things off nicely. I don't think your windows look bare at all-the extra light that comes into the room now is just beautiful and brightens the room considerably. Lowering the large artwork and removing the other two pieces from the stairs was a good move. Perhaps you could balance the mirror by using one of the art pieces you removed from the stairwell and placing it on the other side of the window. Changing your chandelier out for a semiflush or flushmount fixture would help disguise the fact that it's off center. I also think you could use another piece of art to the left of the entrance. The one you had there previously worked well. I would say you're 90% there. Good going!

If you were up for it you could put a standing lamp near this chair and keep the table. A more streamlined standing lamp. Let me see if I have an example:

So from this view that lamp would not be there. And standing lamp would be to right coordinating nicely with the mirror.

But it looks really nice! Great improvement! I even like the sofa table now. The crystal lamps 'lightened' it. I agree, a pretty bowl between them would be nice. Or, a low floral:
