I've been TKO for 10 years! It's a thing.

I'm obsessing about getting a drawing on here so that the folks who work wonders with layouts can get their hands on it and turn my world around. I want it to be as detailed as possible but redrawing and labeling takes time I don't seem to have, lately.

I'm stuck on countertops, though I'm in love with the idea of zinc. White Corian is calling my name, too. I'm least interested in working on the lighting plan, which is one of the major needs. It's just so tedious!

Base cabinets. How many drawers in the stack, what sizes, is bigger always better or should you break some into smaller segments.

Well it's 3 AM and I can't sleep and I just read the thread about 3 drawer stacks vs 4 drawer stacks, so now I'm obsessing over whether or not I should have had at least one 4 drawer stack. (All of mine are 3 drawer.)

For the past week or two it was which company to order the glass pulls and knobs from. And should I have ordered knobs instead of pulls for the corner pull out drawers. (I ordered pulls and now I'm not sure)

Before that, it was whether or not I made a mistake making the two end upper cabinets on the prep sink wall glass cabinets, because where will I store our snack stuff.

Oh and last week I also started obsessing over the fact that I could have made a walk in pantry using some of the garage space.

But nope, I'm not TKO.

Ha, CP, I'm in the same boat about not being able to sleep. I commented after you on the 4-stack thread; I wanted visual harmony so used my 4 in an area not in line with my 3 stacks, as I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the line of the drawers. My kitchen is STILL not finished; I needed to live in my space for a while to determine my needs for a shallow custom 4 ft base cab next to my fridge, and I'm still trying to figure it out. Right now the counter is parked over a garage rolling cart. Luckily, the red goes with the decor! I have other decisions to make also, and then I'll figure out which of my contenders will make the back splash. Yeah, I'm a little TKO.

I'm a Jay, and I'm TKO! (Hi, Jay!) I'm sure I spent more time designing the kitchen than the rest of the entire house. We both love to cook, and I've never had a functional kitchen before. Still don't believe I'm TKO? I'm still active on this forum, two years after finishing the house.

TKO- counters. Killin' me. I just haven't found "it" yet. Still time but I am always searching for the next thing - the thing that is colorful, natural, has movement, is durable and heat resistant, etc. Always looking....

I was not TKO until I started looking at buying a new gas range and discovered GW ... and then I went through the looking glass here and learned all of the things I never knew to think about. And of course in real life, I know no one else who gives a care beyond how the kitchen looks - but here there are people I can ask about the differences between granite and quartzite, the advisability of pulls versus knobs, open burners versus sealed, induction, MUA and towel pigs. Heaven for the TKO.

Have yet to start on demo even... And frankly, relieved to know I'm not the only one having sleepless nights. I sit in the kitchen at all hours of the night, looking over my notes, drawings, and obsessing now.

TKO'ing about:

• 3 vs 4 drawers (yes, I read that same post!)
• Lighting over island - thought I disliked chandelier type lighting, now totally 2nd (or 3rd) guessing.. (have changed island lighting in my mind at least 3 times now)
• Oil rubbed bronze is a living finish? What?? Oh no! Now what?? Antiqued brass is a living finish too? Nooooooo!
• Leathered granite... should we? Can I roll dough on it? Will it trap food particles? Can we even afford it?
• How much CFM do we truly need? Make-up air? We have to have make-up air now?!
• Wood flooring in the kitchen, good idea or bad idea? Older special-needs pet urinating on not-yet-existing wood flooring, ruining it...
• What type of drawer/cabinet front? What colors... do I really want any antiquing or glaze?
• How do I finish the end of the island facing the great room... legs, glass door, corbels?
• Will our marriage survive this kitchen remodel?

(I googled TKO..I went to Urban Dictionary..I tried to no avail..can somebody explain what it means? maybe I'm TKO but don't even know that? lol)

With respect to the paneled cabinets. I agree with friedajune. You should absolutely listen to your need to avoid Shaker cabinets if they do not sing for you, but don't choose a retro-style instead. I have flat panels in one of my kitchens and moulding as trim on the fronts in the other kitchen.

I am definitely getting either a towel pig or a towel fish or shore bird (I do live in FL) for my new kitchen.

I am going to be TKO on your behalf, and say "please no" to the cathedral cabinet doors you mentioned. They are not "traditional". They were a style in the 80's and early-90's, that are no longer in style. If you want traditional, get a raised panel, with beading (you can get very elaborate on the panels for super traditional), but in a rectangle, not a cathedral arch.

Get what you love, because what goes around, comes around too. Unless you're planning on selling in 5-7 years, it really doesn't matter as long as you love it.

Nature's Miracle is a wonderful thing. We had just completed our condo when we got a puppy 6 1/2 years ago. Said puppy had some accidents. Cleaned it up with Nature's Miracle and the floors looked as good the day we moved out as the day we moved in.

In addition, a friend had a party and someone spilled red wine on her white silk chair. That pour woman who spilled it nearly had a heart attack. I said, get a roll of paper towels, and I'll be right back. Ran down the hall, grabbed the Nature's Miracle, sprayed it on, blotted it and got the whole stain out by spraying and blotting.

Did the same for the dried in chocolate stain on my dining room chair.

cp, since your house will be craftsman, I vote for a towel bird; perfect synergy. :)

cparist, Can I use Nature's Miracle on hardwood? I've got a bottle and a jug of it, can't find anywhere on it if I can use it on hardwood (even wearing my readers). How would one use it on hardwood? I've used it on carpet and upholstery only. Our little dog has such terrible incontinence now, and I'm obsessing terribly over hardwood floors with that! She has a severe liver disorder and also vomits 'fluorescent'-like yellow bile - impossible to completely remove from the old carpet we now have.

not obsessed about anything already..even yesterday I noticed someone chipped the paint on a cabinet, noticeably, with something sharp, and within two min was like "oh well whatever"..but took 9 months to get to that point..almost like with a pregnancy lol

ah, and I'm very protective about the thing that holds a sponge-it's a ceramic giraffe with a very sad and funny face..we bought it cheap from a local craftsman, and it's kinda one of a kind, and I don't remember where the festival was, and that craftsman's name..)

Our dog has MVD (micro vascular dysplasia). Very common in smaller dogs. We do not give her anything with red meat. Only fish or bird meat. We also give her no cheese or peanut butter. (We feed RAW)

We give her a 1/2 capsule daily of Milk Thistle, and a half dropper of DMG. It's helped her system stay more healthy and was recommended by our vet who is into holistic as well as regular medicine for animals.

She has a severe liver disorder and also vomits 'fluorescent'-like yellow bile - impossible to completely remove from the old carpet we now have.

I've found that spraying lots of Nature's Miracle and patting the area and doing it multiple times when she throws up has worked. The only time it didn't was when it was partly dried in already.

Thanks april for asking what it means...I had no clue either. But now that I do, I'm very much TKO, all day long! :) I posted my future kitchen a week ago (thought it was great) and then after some wonderful comments, I redesigned the whole thing and basically moved everything around. TKO every.damn.day. ! And I LOOOOVE being TKO!!

Woolite with Oxy is even better than Natures Miracle. I swear you can actually SEE the Oxy "eating" the stain. Even on the yellow neon vomit. Seriously.

Louise, I'll have to try that too. Will it work on stained dried yellow neon vomit?

Also TKO. Reading on GW has become my new hobby. I've been pausing live tv to study the kitchen layouts on commercials and tv shows. No one else I know is interested in any of this, even people who are are planning or recently completed a kitchen reno. It's great to have like-minded people here to validate my obsession lol!

Here is a pic of the Ratatouille movie kitchen. It's all I could think about while watching the movie. The movie is animated for crying out loud! It is not a real kitchen! And yet, I was looking at aisle widths, hood exhaust options, flooring...

cpartist: thank you for the step by step on Nature’s Miracle for hardwood floors. I’ve been incredibly worried about this and would never have tried it out of sheer fear.

Off Topic: I’m so sorry to hear about your dog, and I understand much of what you are going through. Ours also has MVD – I’m assuming you guessed from my comments. In large quantities once a month I bake cod, veggies, sweet potatoes, and add minerals and vitamins allowed for MVD, freeze and thaw as needed. Our little one did not tolerate raw. She gets a couple drops Lactulose twice daily, 3 meals spread out. Used to give her Denamarin but she wasn’t digesting it, so milk thistle and DMG is added to her diet. Antibiotics on occasion to get her system regulated (no longer working). Our vet is also holistic and regular meds – we live near the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and have good support. No more grand mal seizures or ataxic gait, so we had her hepatic encephalopathy under control for years… but lately mild seizures, stupors, and a lot of bile coming up.

I’ve tried many types of cleaning agents on the carpets for the bile, yet I have tons of yellow spots (so embarrassing, but this is life now). Perhaps it’s our carpet.

Louise McCarthy: Thank you, this actually does a better job than anything I’ve tried at fading the yellow bile from our carpet (still fresh, and yes, also the dried but I usually catch it before it dries unless it’s under the bed/sofas), just not completely. I find I must apply it over and over, scrub, and dab hard with a clean dry towel (I actually stand on the towel to absorb). Oxy-anything, particularly the laundry cleaner, dissolved in boiling water seems to be my best bet.

If one has an incontinent dog, there are solutions. Some are medical - ask your vet about them - and others more practical.

If it's urinary incontinence and the dog is male, buy a "belly band" and put a human incontinence pad in it. DO remember to remove it when they go outside (ask me how I thought to mention this!). If it's a female, buy pull-ups for human babies. You'll figure out the size based on weight.

I've done both and it sure beats having ones house destroyed or relegating ones dear old "best beloved" to a kitchen or bathroom.

Anglophilia, I think I'm going to owe you big-time! Female, and pull-ups are a fantastic idea! I'm wondering if something like this - pooch pants, would work, with perhaps sani pads inside? ETA: These seem higher rated.

I just now learned that I am TKO! This Houzz is so helpful! We just finished week one of our remodel...had everything removed from the kitchen, formal dining room and living room including the interior walls. The main bathroom is supposed to be included in this project, but so far I have ordered only the kitchen cabinets and appliances! I'm sure I will not be getting my beauty sleep and I will be spending some time posting questions for all of you on Design Dilemma! I am trying to keep my contractor from running from all of my indecision (no decision!) by keeping a stock of fresh bakery cookies on hand!

Woolite with Oxy has worked on all doggy offerings. Even the dried stuff. Give it a shot cpartist :)
