I must point out, that while you don't want your bathroom to look "cold", having it look "sterile" isn't entirely a bad thing! Better than the alternative!

But I agree with babophz, colourful artwork and accessories will work wonders.

Yes to art, or here is an alternative. Acrylic shelves would look good in your batroom, and you could mix plants with other objects. But it's the plants that will literally bring life to the space.

I agree, get some art. you can go quite bold in here. the shelves are a brilliant idea too. You could put them opposite the toilet, or perhaps on the wall opposite the door, but be sure to leave enough room around the toilet not to feel cramped or knock into the shelves. then some ornaments, plants, candles, a roled towel or two and you have a feature.

Is that metal plate above the mirror a source of power for a sconce?

hard to be original with all the great ideas..art, plant(s), great looking accessories..can be old, vintage, a bit worn out..can't look cheap though. Natural materials, stuff like that. They (the manufacturers) are really into marble etc accessories and stuff..you can use nice looking metal..just an example:

with your space everything should look refined..it can cost one dollar to you but still look refined..)) and no clutter..

with art and plants though you can go as free as you wish..bright modern poster would work, and oil painting will, and etching will, and lots of artworks. just don't go too cutesy..

I would keep towels and a rug-as much as I myself love colors and patterns-still within the existing pallette..patterns subtle, contrasts sophisticated..stuff like that

(I happen to have them myself, and they are great, in terms of both looks and quality. White but not exactly..and no sterile feel at all. And you can wash them on hot, and everything.)

Highly consider your storage solutions..these should look good. Trays, etc.

It's a classic beautifully understated space you have here..so congratulations! take its clues, and play along..art and plants will make it everything but cold and sterile, and other slightly different textures/finishes too.

(Anthropologie. everybody knew without me. Everything But The House-they were real young when I discovered them..just starting..yet promising..I blubbered everywhere...now look what happens, I'm even afraid to bid lol..)

ah. my duty to tell you. look attentively at the pics. there's veeeeery pale rose colored line. and veeeeery pale blue colored line. they don't interfere with the look at all. you can hardly see these. they dissappear in the general white-ness. and I use these towels in two totally different bathrooms, color wise, and they work in both. but couple reviewers were dissappointed. so have to tell you. truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth(c)

Since you seriously brought up the subject, I would think if you had a teeny-tiny blog, you would find yourself with many collaborators- both on the editorial side and the commercial side.

As for the towels. Thank you for telling me. They are already ordered and I think the colors make them all the better. My bathrooms are a sea of white marble (not my choice- though I like white marble- just a bit too much of it in the new house.)

PS And really if a blog is too big, how about an Instagram? Imagine an image of the towels with some description underneath. You are great at product discovery and words. Perfect for Instagram.

I haven't chosen a light either . May consider getting rid of the vent in ceiling and replacing with a chandelier wish I thought of that originally :)

Dark and dramatic, or light and bright. Or throw a pop of any color with art. Towel bar across from toilet...

Do you love the wall color? Photos are always a bit different than in person, but I feel like the wall color is reading a bit off. I would go a bit whiter, a bit greyer or add a little color (blue, aqua, pink) and the put a fixture over the vanity mirror rather than the bare plate. Then look at accessorizing with your towels, art and such.

it's fine if you paint the wall it will be mounted on a colour. an effect of sterility comes from a monochrome look
