Both Typhoon Bordeaux granite?

I'm think I really like this granite in my cream cabinet kitchen. I don't like a lot of movement but I do like the color of this. Seems to be a nice balance of contrast but light, do you agree? However, these two pics show this swirl VERY differently. The color seems to be the same but I like the marble effect in the first one much better than the "busyness" of the 2nd. What gives? Any insights?

Typhoon Bordeaux is one of those stones that looks very different from lot to lot. That's why is essential to visit the stone yard to see what the current inventory looks like. Typhoon Bordeaux comes with a big diagonal wave type pattern about 50% of the time, the other 50% it has non directional pattern like the first photo.

I would go look at slabs before getting your heart set on a particular stone based on what you see online. Unless you are looking at real time inventory on the supplier website.

Take a look at White Spring and Golden Spring as well. They are similar to Typhoon Bordeaux in color but have a tendency to have a non directional type of pattern vs the large diagonal waves.

Both are too busy for me, but I prefer a calmer look than most, perhaps.

This is why they tell you to go to the stone yards to pick your slabs. When I went and got Typhoon Bordeaux, I didn't want the ones with grey, I wanted the ones with the tan streaks in them.

Chess: I too worry that it is too busy...from the start I've said I wanted simple and less movement...more marble than action. But for some reason this one has caught our eye (I love that top pic!). However, I do worry I will tire of it and wish I had something simpler down the road.

Has that happened to anyone...wishing for something simpler after getting these beautiful pieces of granite?

If you like the granite because it a natural material and you like the look that it was forged deep in the earth, you'll probably not regret it later. I love my granite with a lot of big veins and inclusions.

If you pick just based on design/color/trend then all bets are off.

The top picture looks awesome like a jackson pollack painting, bottom not so much, like TV static.

Don't even bother trying to match most granite pictures you see to whats in the slab yards by name. They can look so different that it doesn't even matter.

Any stone should be looked at in the yard... you can look at pictures for inspiration but nothing beats seeing it in person. Also these 2 pics are very different in the finishes - one is lighter and one is darker - this will most definitely make a top look different- drawing out different tones... Grab your samples of cabinets, flooring and even backsplash and spend some time running around the granite yard - you will be amazed!!

When you say "finishes" what do you mean exactly? They don't actually put something on top other than the sealer do they?

Have you considered Taj Mahal quartzite? It is serene and very beautiful! A search on Houzz or this forum will yield lots of gorgeous images.

I think you could probably pull it off, but I would not use it as a backsplash as well. That is just too much.

@ nondesigneraaron What I meant by finishes is that one kitchen is Light cabinets and floor and the other is darker stains... sorry for that confusion...
